I wonder if a flywheel from an 88 fiero would work.
-
I got the 3.4 out of a 93 firebird. I am going to put the fuel injection system on it because the fuel economy and throttle response. I am having the machine shop open the heads up a bit and I am trying to find a truelo intake for it as well. Should be able to get about 200 hp out of the motor when its done. I have a build thread. search 3.4 efi swap

Well, its getting a 3.4 just waiting on the machine shop to fish up with the motor... :) I just need it to drive me to store from time to time until the new motor is ready.

I took the column apart because I was not getting anything... Like no hvac controls... no radio no dash lights....no nothing... I found it to be a bad ignition switch... I Don't think its a common part to fail but hey who knows. I wish I didn't take the whole thing apart trying to figure it out... but soundimas prime started right up after I put the new one in... . :MJ 1: . Thanks for the ideas... I really need to get a manual for this thing.

The starter relay was not it. Any other ideas?

Is the relay right next to the battery?

Hey Guys, So I parked my Comanche last night... went to start it this morning and I don't get any turn over... I thought that the battery was dead so I went and tried to jump it (even though its brand new)... nothing! I don't get anything from the ignition at all... no radio no nothing... but the lights work fine.... any ideas on what it might be? Its not turning over... and there is brand new starter in it aswell. 1986 2.8 5 speed

Don't use it, Its extremely buggy. You are better off running a sand box or duel booting an old version of xp. A remote server might also be an option but I don't think that would be good if you were rendering images in a CAD software

Thanks, I am going to try. Your in pueblo? Cool, howdy from the colorado springs!

Hey Guys, Hoping I can get some best advice guidance. I have an 1986 MJ and was going to swap the tired 2.8 with a 3.4... I bought a complete 3.4 from a junk yard for 250$; however, it has a bad crank and cracked head... Rebuild price is close to three grand.. Tooooo much. The place I got the engine from has another one but the condition of it is unknown... What should I do? They said they would swap it out for me.... but I am afraid I am going to run into the same fiasco. I am at a loss of what to do.

So, Finally got some pictures uploaded. Here is what we are starting with: 1986 2.8 5 speed 202,000 miles Looks pretty stock. There is a decent stereo head unit in the car. So, I broke the carb's throttle arm while trying to clean it. :dunno: . I put a replacement in I got from a local shop called FN jeep. (this place is awesome!) It runs but it feels weak. I wanted to put a straight six in but I get mixed reviews on how easy/difficult the swap is. Some say it won't fit in the 1986 models so I decided i am going to start the 3.4 swap instead. I am also going to switch it to fuel injection because gas is expensive. So I went down to the junk yard and started digging. The first one I found was in a 95 camaro, but it had fire damage.....sooo much damage I couldn't tell where it started from. So I left. I went to the next yard which proceeded to send me to another yard down the road. They just so happened to have a 94 firebird with one in it. So i walked down with my tools prepared to take it out. I get to the car position and there was one already pulled on the floor next to it.   Yay! No sun labor today Payed about 270 for the complete. Went straight to my machinist and dropped it for a full rebuild. They are gonna clean it up and tell me what they can do. Might get some head work done if the price is right. I will keep you guys update as I go. \ So far we got a new battery and a new ignition tumbler in. It feels nice to have keys for it. :) Getting excited.

So, I went a picked up a carb from FN jeep here in colorado. Only cost me 75 bucks to see that this motor is gonna be a money pit. I am jumping the gun and purchasing a 3.4 from a 95 bird and switching to fuel injection. Anyone done this swap. Seems easy.

Turn your heater on.. Do you have any heat? Sounds like your coolent is boiling over. Which means head gasket. Does your car emit white smoke when you first start it after you let it cool down?
-
What intake did you use? I can't find the part number for the edlebrock intake? Do you have any pictures
-
Anyone know the model number for the edelbrock intake for the 2.8?
-
Lol, Now you have my attention. A 3.8 in a Manche? Maybe someday. Whats required from the harness to swap in the fuel injection system? I just so happen to have a 2.8 from a fiero in my garage from 87 fiero GT..

I have to buy a new carb. This one hat mice living it. It was all brittle and broke apart while trying to clean it. So the cost of new carb is inevitable. What route should I take? replace the I'm? With what? I am new to comanches. Have expeirence with the 2.8s but only with Multport injection. Thanks for all the info.

Are you getting spark? Check the Ignition control module in the distributor. I find thats the case most of the time. -
Hey Guys, So My 2.8 1986 carb is worn out. I want to replace it but these OEM ones are poor at best. I am going to throw a 3.4 into the from the camaro/firebird 94' 95' models. Can someone recommend a good Carb replacement for these motors. Is their a 4 barrel option w/o changing the I'm?

Hello Everyone! So I am the newest member to the forum. Picked up my first Comanche the other day. Its a 1986 2.8 4x4. I only had to trade 350 bucks for it. 8) It had not run for 3 years. No keys and no title. (I checked the vin, not stolen... Have to get a new title). We were actually able to break the lock tumbler and it turned over first try with a jump. Not only that but we drove it home... about 3 miles. Suprised it didn't give us any trouble. Actually ran really well for garabage oil, dirty carb and old fluids. Excited to get this thing on the road again. I have never owned a jeep... Just a bunch of pontiac fieros. I want to get rid of the carb and put a straight six in it. Any starting information you guys can offer is great. I am starting to poke around the forum. Ill keep you guys update. Pictures soon.
