Thank you for the links! I'm picking up a draw tite receiver and I understand it fits well with the stock bumper. The second one eBay is that a decent bumper will it fit with my receiver hitch? There's free shipping which is a plus

Hey guys. So my comanche stock bumper, was pulled by something from a Ignorant PO. What do you think I should do? Do you think that I can be straightened and how much would it cost? Or should I go to a yard, that I know has a good bumper for now and they want $200 for it. Is that a good price? Here's a pic. You can kinda see it.

Good point you all. I think that it is the perfect truck. And I wish I had the 4.0 with the one I got! Guess it's another reason to get another one!

Sounds great! It's funny how the majority of people don't know jeep made a truck! That's why I like it. It stands out. And good luck with the build. I have a 2.5L 2wd automatic, the one I got for free. I want a 4.0L 4x4 5 speed. I don't think I have the time or money or handiness to convert mine. I plan to find another with all my wishes In it haha

So I just want to know why you all chose the Jeep Comanche as your daily, wheeling, or whatever you want to use it as truck compared to any other compact sized truck like S10s, Rangers, Tacomas. What makes it better? Is it the best compact sized truck to own? What are the pros ands cons of having an MJ? I chose a Comanche, first off my aunt had one and when ever Id see it. I'd think that's a nice looking, sporty truck. And slowly began attach to it. The thing wasn't running for 6 months. She said if I got it running I could have it! What'd I do? Research, get help from CC and other jeep forums to learn about it and I got it started and got it for free. I fell in love with it. It being a pretty rare truck made me want it even more. I like to be unique and stand out and this truck did just that. I chose a comanche cause it was available to me and it just being so unique and cool i had to have one. I know that jeeps are bullet proof and will last and that is another reason why I chose it. Now I want another one!

Here's the interior

Well thanks guys. I got the auto tranny. What can do to get more power from it? And how much better on mileage is it? And I think I'll just stick with it for now and as you said fix it up and put some upgrades on it. And when I get out of college I'll look for my 4x4 4.0L. And the interior is grey. Which is weird though cause everyone's I've seen is mostly grey or maroon. I'll post pictures of the interior. But I got the floor mats up now, I'm fighting some floor board rust. I've gotten away the flakey rust and wire brushed the floors. And just put some rust resistant paint on it. And then I'm going to patch the holes.

Doesn't sound so bad. I'm guessing there was a harness on there previously and it came off. So I just get one of those four flat harnesses with four wires? Three off those wires from the harness will go to where the old three are connected. And the last one (the ground) will go to drivers side tailight?
-
I guess that is an option. And I've heard it isn't too bad. I just wouldnt know how the 2.5L would do with 4wd. I think I'll plan to buy another mj with the 4.0l and 4wd. My 2.5L l, which gets better mileage can be my dd. :)

Follow those back into the wiring harness. Trailer wiring is simple, yet can screw up OTHER wiring.(tail lights etc., grounds etc.). If done right and tight, you'll never have to worry about it again...but the circuits are all right there. Okay so there being just THREE wires there is correct and fine? there is just wires i don't know what happened if there was a harness for a trailer or now, but it seems just cut off here's a pic you can kind of see them hanging lol: notice my bent bumper :( previous owner pulled something with don't know what. unfortunate.

Hi Comanche Club, I would like to introduce myself and tell my story of acquiring my first comanche! I am currently a full time student, with a low budget, anyways my aunt had acquired an 88' Comanche but it had not been running for about 6 months. I would go over and see this truck and I slowly fell in love with it, the body style, the fact of it being a jeep, and the rareness of it. So I ask if i could get it running if I could have it. So with the help of comanche club's forum and more online research and write-ups I got it to run! and she let me have it for free! I took on this comanche to make myself busy for the summer and to learn about cars, (I don't want to end up like the majority of my generation which probably doesnt even know how to change a cars' oil). since I have no prior experience before this summer. I'm as dumb as it gets you could say when knowing about cars, but I'm slowly learning. But I was so ecstatic to get this truck. Its an 88 2.5L Auto transmission 2wd. Everything is stock on it so far. its probably the most basic barebones options you could get. I feel so unlucky, but still I'm lucky to get it for free. I plan to just take care of it until I'm out of school and then fix it up when i get the money. All i can think of now is about comanches. but i just get so jealous of everyones rigs, and all the pics of four wheeling in there 4.0l 4wd mjs. wishing i had the 6-cylinder and 4x4. I don't know what kind of potential my mj has other than driving on the road.

What receiver did you manage to make it work? and I thought mine has wiring but it doesnt have a harnass. There are wires hanging down behind the bumper, but its just a set of three wires.
-
Thank you all for the replies. I guess I will look around in some of the junk yards around here and get lucky. I mean I probably can't do much pulling any ways, though I got my mj for free It's got the 4-banger just thought having a receiver would come in handy. But I got the truck for free and can't complain. But now I Wish I did have the 4.0l and 4wd after seeing everyone else's sweet rigs. :(

Thanks for bringing this post up. I have seen it and read a lot of it. I just wanted to see if there's one easy to install. I'm a college kid on a college kids budget. And also just got my mj for free and been fixing it up. I'm not old and don't really have much experience with fabrication or much of any mechanic work. Took on the project of fixing this mj to start learning and fell in love with the mjs. What would you suggest for me to do to equip my truck with a receiver?
-
Oh gotcha. Well looks like I'm gonna have to modify a receiver to my mj no matter which one i get. Was that receiver easy to install. What all did you do to make it fit? And another question I have is how to hook my mj for harness for trailer lights.
-
I got a 88 mj and I'm looking for a receiver hitch. I have the stock bumper. What is one that will fit and will bolt up nicely? I've seen some through research but don't know where to go order one.

Hi, I'm close to the Suffolk area, VA. Received a free MJ from my aunt if I could get it running so I did! It's an 88 2.5L 4-banger 2wd. Its the basic and unfortunately no A/c or power steering. Everything so far is stock. Been working slowly on it and slowly becoming an Jeep addict at the same time. Now I want a 4.0L 4x4 Mj so I can do some offroading. Not sure my 2.5l 2wd has the wits to do any of that.
