The problem was, the truck was in my yard, and the rear had to be taken across the street to my neighbors who had the welder. Atleast i know how I'm goin to do it next time, the shims made it work out ok. I'm not 100 percent happy but it will be ok. Keep on truckin :). And the whole deal only cost me twenty bucks for the u-bolts so not too bad.

Thanks man. Just welded it and its wrong. I'm more than 2 degrees low without a sye. i can tell it aint where it needs to be kinda because i know where it doesnt need to be now that its wrong. The wheel(brake) cylinders need to be pretty much straight up and down if the perches are welded right. i currently have mine facing towards the front of the truck. :grrrr: . It is not too bad but not where they need to be I'm assuming. I have the perches perfect distance wise but pinion angle wise its no good. :(

Pulled out the wimpy d35 yesterday,cut off the perches and shock mount from 8.25, got some new u-bolts, I'm goin to be welding perches onto the 8.25 today. Any suggestions how to get the pinion angle correct? anything else to look out for? Thanks in advance

Back to Comanche in the garage. Picked up a hd drop trac bar mount and track bar. I also have a new knuckle to knuckle setup to install as well. I also have new used hub bearings from the axle i just bought to put under the other manche ( i used the old hub bearings cause i swapped the knuckles so the brakes would work). I have acos in the front but only a 4.5 inch spring to put in there. I don't want the acos too extended. Lookin for 6 inch coil springs for the front currently. And also a rubicon dana 44. I wish..

Fuel pump replacement in 88 Comanche

A buddy of mine has a sweet setup in his Cherokee. He mounted an external Bosch fuel pump under his rear seat. Now he can change the pump in 5 minutes. I will ask him for the part number. He said he could do the same on my MJ, but we'd have to find a good location for it. Last year, I changed the fuel pump with out dropping the tank. Yeah, it was a PITA. And I didn't get the lockring back on right, so I leaked a lot of gas when I went to fill up. Had to drop the tank to do it right. Ya ever get that part number ? it be a handy piece of info and a handy setup.... -
with 3:55s? and brakes? drum to drum?

Front axle replaced with a non-disco axle; had to swap knuckles/hub bearings from the original d30 so my brakes would work. plugged vacuum lines and all is well. Rear axle being replaced asap. with 8.25.

Need D35 with 3:55s for a comanche. Drum to drum preferably but whatever. I heated up my right rear bearing and the axle came on out last night. Atleast i was doin ten mph. I'm in NJ so the closer the better

The rear bearing heatd up enough last night and let the shaft go. :mad: Atleast i was doing five to ten mph. Got out my high lift, jacked it up, put the shaft back in and waited for the flatbed. She is now back in front of the garage and i now depseratley need a rear axle assembly. This one is shot and now worth putting the dinero into to never have it be rite.

88 commie d35 right rear axle shaft Over an inch of it sliding/grinding in n out.(only noticed cause all brake hardware off and was balancing the tires) I yanked on it(backing plate where the four bolts go) as hard as i could. it won't come out. Its an 88 axle so it doesnt have c-clips and is semi-floating. Hence i believe the bearing is holding it in. As the title says, How is the shaft still there and how long till it comes out? I been hearing the noise for awhile now and since the pinion bearing is bad i couldnt isolate the other noise to know to look at the shaft. Jeeps break, but they also take a beatin :)

I'm all done the swap; the old vac lines(from axle to frame) run up to three hardlines on the framerail. I was just going to cap them there. So mud n junk didnt get in. Then maybe like u were saying cap them at the firewall too so my 4wd indicator light doesnt stay on all the time. Ill have to take a look and see what goes where up at the fire wall.

I also am a taillight hoarder. I just bashed one out like 3 weeks ago, i was heartbroken :mad: I still have a few left though. Will survive; as a comanche owners, we realize the importance of our treasured taillights and the giddy feeling we get when we see a set at the junkyard. :banana:

88 Jeep Comanche I'm going to be swapping out my comand trac axle(disconnect) to a Selec-trac axle In the next day or so. I have done this before on my other 88 comanche; to make the four-wheel work properly i just plugged up the vacuum lines that ran to the shift housing(well, plugged them up by the t-case) and it worked fine other than the four-wheel light on the dash was permantly on. I was wonder if you any of you guys(girls) have done this before and done something other than plug the lines. Just would like some other opinions... Thanks in Advance

I need to do a coolant flush anyway so ill grab a thermostat and do that at the same time; ill grab an o2 sensor later this weekend when i have the money. Ive never changed it in the 6yrs ive owned it. (in the meantime ill work on the loosening the other one and getting it out). On second thought; i may be replacing the trac-bar with this weeks money since i finally aligned it right(last week) and now i have death wobble on occasion. I have until 3-11-11 to fix the emmisions but it sucks cause i just had the exhaust re-welded with a new muffler put on. Its goin to suck if i have to do a new cat, if i do I'm gonna run a stack through the bed this time. Then probably have them fail me for that. In the great communist state of New Jersey; who cares if my numbers are high at idle, i don't want to be idling; i want to be driving. Thanks for the help and Ill keep you posted :) -
88 Jeep Comanche 4.0L Exactly what the title says; i changed fuel pump/rail/regulator/injectors/ spark plugs and fixed all vac leaks so she purrs like a kitten to PASS inspection. I failed at idle, passed at high idle. Idle numbers Reading Standard Result- Fail :grrrr: HC ppm 227 220 CO% 5.07 1.20 High Idle numbers Reading Standard Result- Pass HC ppm 24 220 CO% .20 1.20 Any ideas on the dramatic differences? Turn the idle up? replace the cat? Replace 02 sensor? Thanks in advance

1988 Jeep Comanche Metric Tonne 119,500 miles Originally a D44 in the back with still A chrysler 7.25 in the front. (D30) but has 7.25 stamped on it. 6 cylinder, auto trans, column shift, stock in cab brake controller for prop valve in the rear. (btw, when i did the exhaust manifold it had CJ stamped on the the engine block) 24.6 Gallon stock fuel tank. Also stock hitch. ******Original Comanche Bedliner******It says Comanche in the front :) (Taken out n being saved) Drive it for fun or in the snow, 29x10.5 super swamper xs's; long travel shocks in the rear Just did new injectors/rail/fuel pump/filter/regulator/plugs fixxed all vacuum leaks The motor, trans, and t-case are good the current axles need to be swapped out(I'm looking for a d30 and a have an 8.25 laying around) Just took it thru inspection last week. Passed everything, including running emissions,except idle emissions so i failed. :grrrr: Ive owned the truck since 2005, bought it off an older gentleman that used it for hunting. (Bout it for 5, put 5k into it) Located in the Southern New Jersey Pine Barrens Owned by N. Brown of EHT
