I would hold on to my money to buy a manual, thats my personal preference though because i enjoy driving more when i make the decisions instead of a machine. other than that the new truck sounds good, and it might be more satisfying for you if your money went into upgrading your truck rather than just getting it to run again. just my 2cents

Mrsimon's First Mj Project (Tube Bed Page 7)
renOnv replied to MrSimon's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
i think the spare parts in the compartment below the glove box was a stock option... or just a popular mod. i know mine is full of interior parts that broke and i need to replace ;) nice find. i thought $1100 was a good deal for mine, but it seems like most trucks on here were under $500 -
Try and guess what the PO did.

Welcome to my day to day. Flipping through project threads sucks without any pics............... at least you can surf the actual web, I'm restricted to AKO on work computers... of course as a lower enlisted I don't have a need for being on a computer really  -
So I was reading a lot bout how the ground connection can cause some funky electrical problems. Because none of the lights on my drivers side don't work, and when i try to turn up the volume on my cd player it pauses it, and because... well you get the point I have weird electrical issues. following the advice of other forum members i picked up some sand paper, di-electric grease and popped open my tail light. Here is what i found: (after shattering and pulling out the light bulb) (something didn't seem right so i opened up the light socket, and found all this yellow putty loking stuff) (can't really see but there more putty inside where i asume the light bulb screws into) So... is this something jeep did, or is it something the previouse owner did? I only included pictures of one, but all of the lights have it. Either way, what do you guys recommend? I've got an open day and motivation, so hopefully i can get some feedback before the auto part stores close.

I was bored, and searching for information on the actual comanche tribes, and i have a few small recommendations. I don't necissarily think these changes will happen, but i figured it was worth a shot. Baisically the changes are just terms we use, and why not try to use some actual comanche terms, could be fun right? 1. change "the pub" to "the smoke lodge" "Old men who no longer went on the war path had a special tipi called the Smoke Lodge, where they gathered each day. A man typically joined when he became more interested in the past than the future." If you consider all the research, part finding/selling, jeep mods, and offroading as being the "warpath" of a comanche jeeper, then the smoke lodge would be the place to debate other things... (ie the purpose of our pub) 2. refer to moderators as "council members" "Comanche groups did not have a single acknowledged leader. Instead, a small number of generally recognized leaders acted as counsel and advisors to the group as a whole." seems like the role of our form moderators. 3. "Wheeling and other trips" would seem more bad @$$ if referred to as "the war path" Just an idea, if u can think of other appropriate terms for our forum feel free to post them here. These changes will in no way affect how jeepers use the forum, it would only change our sense of community and moral.

hey guys, thanks for the views. that window crank is a work of art isn't it? Unfortunately, the night i bought the truck i locked it up before going to bed, when i came out in the morning i discovered why the previous owner never locked his door... its permanently locked shut. I took out all the screws I could get to with the door being closed, but have no way of actually getting the door panel off. (unless someone here knows a sneaky trick?) I've got a friend who's a diesel mechanic, so hopefully i'll get over to his shop before this coming weekend and slim-jim it open, then finish unscrewing it and take a look inside. In the mean time I've opened up the hood and started taking things out and cleaning. The battery was the biggest pain in the @$$ because the ends of the battery cables rusted/corroded/were hammered on to the battery and will not come off. So i had to leave the connectors on the battery, unscrew the cables, and removed everything together. luckily the guy at the jeep dealership gave me a new connector for free, so my truck has the new battery in, and is running well enough to scoot around town and buy parts. Here are a few pics of the engine after i removed the battery and the grease covered air filter box. As you can see... dirty. Hopefully by this coming weekend ill have some new pics on this thread with a cleaner, smoother-running engine. Feel free to laugh and shake your head, as i'm sure many of you will remember your first comanche, and all the fun that came with figuring everything out. My current question for the pros and forum trolls: I've read the DIY on switching from a bench seat to a bucket seat. How complicated is this? It looks easy enough in the pictures, but for someone who is doing his auto work in the parking lot with a very minimalist collection of hand tools how feasible is the seat swap?

thanks for the warm welcoming  (edit: my next step after changing fluids and the all the basics I'm going to spray in a bed liner. while i was doing it, hopefully they would cut me a deal on the nerf bars and variouse other parts on the truck. have any of you salty pros seen people, or had your fenders and stuff sprayed, any pics or price ranges would be cool) here's some pictures with the new set of tires on them. they are BFGoodrich At T/A KO 31" tires. I put them on last night, then this morning me and a few friends pulled out the Sawzall and trimmed up the body around the wheel wells to keep them from rubbing. We only ended up having to take off a few inches, but that only because I wanted to keep any cuts hidden behind the fender flares. Anyway there are two pictures of the truck, and two close up of the trimming we had to do if anyone is interested.

Hey, so my first full day of being an owner was spent driving in the rain. I went out for a few hours in the morning before the rain changed to snow with my friend and his Scout II. We stayed on the outskirts of Reno looking for something to to test the truck. found a decent mud puddle about 4 car lengths long with 6"-8" standing water and a nice steep muddy hill. Fun, yes. Practical for working on the truck, no. As of right now, I've insured it ;) , and had my buddy at Costco put some 31" AT tires on it  . Pretty slow day really because of the snow, but the tires made a huge difference. The truck is a 1990 Comanche 4x4 base model (pretty sure its base). I bought it with 143k miles. It has the inline 6, and came with a 2" lift.

Hey everyone, I ended up buying the MJ for $1100 just a few hours ago. I posted some bigger pictures of the truck in another thread that you can see here http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15179&p=152983 they are mostly interior pictures, because its dark here, if the storm blows through tonight ill clean it up and shoot some more photos

New to the forums, and MJs as of earlier today. I saw it for sale on Craigslist for $1350. No rust, and runs strong. The previous owner was a college kid who got the truck from his parents, and now has something more people can ride in. Long story short its storming in the Reno/tahoe area right now so there was plenty of rain and snow to test drive the truck in, and after 10 min I was sold. I ended up paying him $1100. here's a few (terrible) pictures of the truck as it is right now The last two pictures show some of the first things i have to take care of. the clear coat is peeling on the entire truck, and the drivers side window crank was broken and screwed back on. There are cracks in the dash, and the clock doesnt work. i need to replace the bulbs in the drivers side lights, and lastly the engine is nasty. not in bad condition really, just dirty. very dirty. After my drive home in the rain, and around town to show it off its been a fun truck to drive. the rims are nice, and i am putting new tires on them tommorow. The interior was kept very clean, and it came with a 2" lift. So while i do have some work laid out for me, I am pretty happy with the deal.

Hello, hopefully this is the right section for this, I actually just created an account. I returned from my AIT training with the guard and have been without a car for a few months. (I sold my 1994 nissan hardbody before i left for basic training) That left me a long time to search craigslist and autotrader. I now have my bonus money and had been keeping an eye out for an early 90's toyota or nissan 4x4, when i stumbled upon this. I'm driving to meet the guy selling it in a few hours, any last minute advice of things i should look for? From what ive been able to dig out of the internet so far, the comanches is a reliable pickup truck, and at the price he is asking i would have a thousand or so to put into a tune up/maintenance, plus some new tires and cheap mods ect. Anyway, here is the ad. Let me know what you think and i'll keep this thread up to date on how the meeting goes. If everything looks nice and clean I might be buying myself a little MJ. "This rare truck has 143,000 miles on the original engine. The truck runs fine. has a high idle up here in the cold weather. It is a 4x4 which works great. Ithas the inline 6 cyl. cd player. 1.5" Rancho lift. 5 speed Manual Transmission. The front tires are pretty bald, the rear tires have a little tread left, but not much. It will need new tires right away. The clear coat in the paint is peeling on a couple different areas. A few minor dents. Overall though its in pretty good shape. No rust. Registered in California. It passed smog back in August." The images arnt great, but from my conversation on the phone, its a high school kid who is selling the truck his parents bought him because he wants something to cruise with his friends in.
