  1. Thanks much. This will be a big help.
  2. Anyone have a link to a PDF or write up on how to dismantle or rebuild the np231? www.jbconversions.com have good stuff to look at but I am looking for the pages from a service repair manual. Or a good book I could purchase just for this T-case. I am thinking of replacing the chain to the wide chain and rebuild. Thanks for your help. Richard
  3. There is a good artical in 4 wheel off-road mag. this month about the 8.8 upgrade with Superior axles: http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/toc/thismonth/index.html I looked on the Superior website but did not find it. It is new just coming. http://www.superioraxle.com/htmlfolder/latestnews.html The kit will eliminate c-clips and make the axle an inch wider. I think it has new stronger 1 piece axles drilled for both 5 on 4-1/2 and 5 on 5-1/5 patterns. I was thinking about this for my truck in the future for my chevy 350 engine I am putting in. If I had the cash I would go Dana 60 custom made like I did with my CJ from Summers brothers but made I could go with the 8.8 and upgrades in it. http://hometown.aol.com/husky410ohio/my ... /auto.html
  4. I purchased a folding cherry picker from Summit. Summit is near me so I did not pay to have it shipped. And if you ever been to Summit WOW. It is the size of a super Wallmart and nothing but car stuff. I got the engine out and the chevy motor mounts bolted in. Here are the pictures: http://pictures.aol.com/ap/viewShare.do ... nTD2eA%2f6 my Jeep page: http://hometown.aol.com/husky410ohio/my ... /auto.html
  5. Thanks, the grille and front end header is all I have left to remove before I rent an engine lift.
  6. I got the old transmission out of mine this last weekend. Pulled a lot parts off it. I think the old clutch was wornout and the throwout bearing pulled apart and leaked. Then a mouse made a home in it. I have the radiator out. Can the metal arond the front grill come off so I do not have to lift the engine up high to get it out? The Haynes manual I have is not that detailed. It looks like take the plastic off then the head lights, then a bunch of torx head screws. Not as easy as a Jeep CJ front end to remove. http://hometown.aol.com/husky410ohio/my ... /auto.html
  7. I am doing this 350 chevy and SM465 swap to my 88 Jeep http://hometown.aol.com/husky410ohio/my ... /auto.html
  8. How about NAPA? They show both long and short bed gas tanks. http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/N ... =Fuel+Tank I need new rear quarter panels for my LWB 1988. Anybody know where to find them? My Jeep page: http://hometown.aol.com/husky410ohio/my ... /auto.html
  9. I have an extra set of wheels I want to make into beadlocks by welding a ring to the lip of the wheels. I saw a picture of this in a magazine but I was wondering if anybody here had done this. I can order the rings but We have 1/4" scrap plate in the shop and can burn them out and drill the holes and weld the ring on the wheels. I have a drawing and dimensions on my website of what I think it should be. You can make the image bigger by right clicking it and pick view image. I am not sure if the bolt circle diameter is correct. They are the original Jeep 15 inch wheels. http://hometown.aol.com/husky410ohio/my ... /auto.html
  10. I just got my chevy 350 / SM 465 for my swap http://hometown.aol.com/husky410ohio/my ... /auto.html
  11. I got the transfer case out and it is a 21spline NP231. I was missing a stud to the transmision and it look like it has been apart before because there is blue ATV silicon all over it. Also I feel a lot of chain backlash but I do not know if this is normal. I wish I could just buy an atlas case but that is way out of budget. This was a $100 truck. I want to rebuild the transfer case but my Hayes manual said do not try this too many parts for a do it yourselfer. If I get a shop manual would it tell me how to swap out the shaft?
  12. Thanks all for the replys. I need to take it apart and see what I have. I hope to have time this weekend. Anybody know how the trans. stick comes off the Jeep manual. It looks like it is two pieces but I see no screw or pin holding it. I pulled The carpet up and took the knob and rubber boot off the shifter stick. Looks like you pull it straight up to remove it. This is forum is great! Richard
  13. I have an old Chevy 350 motor with an SM465 trans. and setup with a hydraulic clutch bearing and an advance adapter for a DANA 300 transfer case but no transfer case on it. Will the original transfer case on truck fit the adapter? It is an 1988 long bed Comanche that had a four cylinder and manual trans.
