  1. so the ax15 is in and while we had it up in the air i got a pic of the bumpstop, and we pryed on it using a 5' tire bar. it straightened it so that it no longer forced the coil to rub on the frame and it could probably go straighter but it appears that the coil bucket and frame are unbent. well?
  2. so its all done minus the transfer case linkage plate. the crossmember had to be modified like so: and its insane how quiet she is now. if anyone has any questions just let me know.
  3. so i got the ax in today. had an issue with the cross members and the transfer case linkage. is this common?
  4. got it up on the hoist when i put in the new ax15 and the bumpstop is pretty bent but thats the end of it i think. i'll get a pic tomorow.
  5. if my damage is permanent i'm going to race that $#!& and kick those redneck's asses!
  6. this is how it got bent. this is the olemotive truck (my competition) getting the piss beaten out of it. but in whistler you have all kinds of rich retired rally drivers and 4x4 enthusiasts all crammed into a small village so this kindof $#!& is going on all the time. in the actual rally course there is a pretty decent jump that most vehicles land clean and undamaged. my boss's truck does it every year and he hasn't broken any parts. the truck is in the shop right now and i won't be there untill monday, but everything seems fine. ball joints, bushings, trackbar, are all good except the bumpstop is angled forwards. the lower surface of the rubber on the bumpstop is aproximately an 4cm out of place.
  7. so i hit some jumps in my jeep and bent the front coil area so that the bumpstop is cocked forwards and the coil is bending inwards a bit and rubbing in the wheel well. the whole front end is dogtracking and i'm wondering if i can bang this one out. does this not happen to everyone?
  8. so, for some reason the tcase linkage was missing. there was no snow and it was nice out, the vehicle was lifted, and the e12 was substituted with a 10mm socket. it took 3hrs and if i had to redo it i could probably do it in an hour. unfortunately the yard closed 2.5hours early and i forgot all the bolts while rushing to pack my truck up. then my peice of $#!& ford broke down on the way home so i had to leave the tranny on the side of the road. i went in a crv (poor crv) to pick it up today and will hopefully put it in tomorow. being a 231 transfer that i got and that i'm about to put in, shouldn't the linkage be the same? i'm hoping the bolts are all the same otherwise i'm screwed. :dunno: on a side note, the donor had an internal slave, and so does my jeep so i'm pretty sure that i won't need the master cylinder (that i forgot in the ford) so it looks like smooth sailing from here. i might go back for a whole day to get some more $#!&. maybe a clutch and wheel bearings.
  9. hey, i'm getting closer and closer to doing the swap from the french peice of $#!& to the ax. i'm wondering what sort of tools or tricks you guys know when trying to pull out the ax, with the np231 and the whole clutch/master/slave and all that goodness.... ...while the donor is on the ground in the snow with hand tools. so far i know that i need an e-12 torx 10mm 11mm 14mm 15mm 19mm and if your wondering, the installation will be done professionally. its up to me to gather the parts needed however.
  10. ya i used to have extra load tires, bald as @#$% but i ran them at 44 on the highways. 30ish on the dirt. i put them on my 87 ranger and now i got some bf goodrich trac edge tires that are studded. 235x75s and i was wondering what psi i should run them at on the road/dirt because it looks like they were under inflated before. they recomend a max psi but that is all.
  11. well i found a 91 comanche with 278000km and an ax15, 4x4. cheap. my clutch lever snapped the other day so that was fun. welded it. the clutch master leaks onto my fueses like it should so i'm thinking with this new comanche i will replace the tranny, transfercase, clutch, clutch master and lever. do you guys think its worth it to install a the ax with 278000km or should i find a newer one? how new can i go before i run into compatibility issues? on a side note, i got some studded bf's for winter and i have a feeling theyre going to rub in the back considering my bald 235's rub already. does anyone know of rims off another vehicle with less backspacing?
  12. sooo.. i got a price for a new transfer case and ax15. both heavy duty, never installed, never rebuilt, for $2700. i can't argue. but i also can't afford right now! hahah. :wall: so i plan on finishing this silly ford ranger as my daily driver, then as soon as i get a new garage to park my comanche inside, i'll be getting my hands dirty. i plan on new shocks, soa, new wheels, toyo m55s, front coils, tranny, transfer case, sye, clutch, ball joints, track bar, other miscellaneous bushings or bearings.
  13. soo.. i finally got the o rings changed and no more leaking from my fuel injectors. i removed the wheels and bolted them onto my ranger because it really needed wheels. i noticed that my drivers side coil rubs on the front quadrant of the wheel well. i will get a picture soon. the coil also looks bowed. so i plan on new coils... but i was wondering what angle the bump stops should be at. how are they damaged? these ones look perfect and strait. mine are cocked forward on an odd angle... il get a picture this weekend. and what is the minimum safe backspacing i would want to run with a set of 16"s?
  14. i think that you mean that the truck has no sag. the "linkage" (mountain bike terms) and the shock have to work together. if the shock does not sit proportional to the linkage then there is a problem. if both are matching in specifications then your coils (preload) must be set properly to achieve the proper amount of "sag" along with the wheel's "travel". on my downhill race mountain bike i have a large 8 inch shock absorber in the front which is a no brainer but in the back the linkage usually has about a 10-14 inch range. the proper useable range is only 8 inches and the shock used determines this range.
  15. thanks for the advice!
  16. who makes the best front coils for the money. i am looking for 3" over stock length..
  17. well. I'm going to see how much a new ax 15 is. :shake:
  18. mines a peugeot with the two peices bolted together. :fs1: so if this tranny dies. what other damage will it do to my truck? because i might as well just wait for that to happen and then find an ax 15 down the path.
  19. its an 89
  20. I'm currently rolling (grinding) with an ax 15 i suppose. howcome there is a clutch assembly listed for a 4.2l comanche?
  21. what specialty tools are required for rebuilding a transmision? and is the HO i6 a 4.2l? how many miles do you get out of the xjs and mjs?
  22. I'm looking for two sets of rims here. one for my 87 ranger and one for my commanche i guess. i just need some with more (or less ?) back spacing so that i can clear a bit bigger tires. anyone know what kinda rims i could find at the junk yard that will fit this application? :dunno: and i don't do any flexing or rock crawling stuff so i don't need to worry as much about clearance. i just wanna squeek by with clearance and keep my truck as low as possible with 30's and about 100lbs in the back at most times. i wish i found out about trophy trucks and $#!& cuz i woulda spent a summer in mexico or something to learn about it first hand. you can only learn so much on the internet.
  23. what tells me the backspacing on a part list for wheels? for example.. Size 10 x 15", Bolt Pattern 6x5.5 its not there is it?
  24. those jks race shok adapters are probably what i need. that way i can install some serious shocks like on my bicycles. i decided that I'm broke. i bought a new truck that maybey is more reliable for the time being. what is the average cost of a tranny rebuild? and is this tranny one to be rebuilt? mine is deffinitely not doing so good. makes a grinding noise when not in gear, or when in gear and the clutch is pressed. and i might gain a shop class at school where i'd be able to work on my trucks for free for an hour every day. :brows: and i want to put in my own fuel injectors. howcome a shop quotes me around 900$ cad. for this when the fuel injectors i was recomended on here are only 150ish for a set?
