  1. No, the bolts are all torqued down, and as far as I can see no the CPS wire isn't getting pinched. The more I think about it the more I'm afraid it's the tranny.
  2. Thanks for the prompt response dasbulliwagen, definitely not what I wanted to hear. How confident are you in that being the problem based on the limited description I've given? I was originally just trying to get it running to sell as my main vehicles are my GTI and motorcycle and we have my wife's car as well. . . but, as y'all know, I just hate to let the old girl go, but if it's not going to be cost effective to get her road worthy and inspected I'm afraid it might come to that. Eagle, thank you as well; I was able to push and tow it just fine so I am not sure if the rear brakes would be seized if it is able to go forward under even human power. . . I could very easily be wrong and don't mean to insult you, obviously that is a simple enough thing to test, I just don't know. Would they not have enough contact to allow me to pull start it with tractor but then not work after that?
  3. So I haven't been on here in ages but I've finally had a chance to poke around with my old MJ (1991 Pioneer that I did a motor swap with a 2000 wrangler) Both 4.0 HOs. Ran fine years ago when I parked her until I had a high dollar Viper alarm put on. Finally finished taking that off and trying to start her up and shake her down (last ran in 2009-2010) and successfully pull started her with tractor on first try (started wouldn't work until after running for a few minutes). My starter problem makes me think it's possibly the crank position sensor since it's an intermittent problem but I am certainly out of my league and hoping for help. The MAIN reason for this post is the fact that it ran fine in reverse but the moment I tried to start out in 1st or 2nd gear (didn't try 3-5) it would instantly stall out no matter how high I had the RPMs. I literally drove it back down to barn in reverse with no problems what so ever yet when tried forward gears again it stalled out. Please help! (Before anyone gets upset before posting this I did forum searches for this problem, as well as, google search to see if something popped up on forum that I couldn't find from within. Thank you in advance for your help!
  4. So I've read mixed reviews on the PUSH VS PULL for the fans. . . which has worked best for y'all? Got the alternator on there so all thats left is the power steering pump. I have NO EARTHLY IDEA how to get it on there, I'm guessing I'll have to fab something, any ideas?
  5. that will work in place of a fan clutch running off the waterpump i'm assuming? Thanks, I can't wait to try it out!! Down here in texas its more like 150 in the engine bay so the more fans the better! Any ideas on what to do about mounting my alternator and power steering pump up?
  6. Alright guys, where I last left off I couldn't figure out how to get my engine swap to work. To catch you up I have a 91MJ that The engine seized on but everything else is in great working order. Biggest hold up before I could crank it was trying to find the right water pump. Friend I got the engine from told me it was a 99 but he wasn't for sure, all we knew was that it was out of a wrangler. Finally last night, bought my 5th different water pump and figured out it was out of a 2000 Wrangler. Did the install on the water pump hooked up a battery, sprayed a little ether since it hasn't run in 1.5+ years and she started right up. Now the hard part. throttle cable holder or tensioner or whatever the key word is. . . I need to buy one since while i was pulling the old engine out it seems to have gotten lost, anyone have an extra to buy or know of a good source? Secondly, My power steering pump and alternator need to go on. I have some brackets but they're off of the 91 block and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get them on there. I have a Chilton for the MJ and a Haynes for the wrangler engine but can't seem to figure it out right off hand. Any exploded engine views with bracket placement? Third, The fan clutch that fits onto the wrangler engine is too large to fit, IE it hits the hood and my radiator housing, Would i be okay with 2 electrical fans in place of the fan clutch? Any help would be great, I'm so close to getting her up and at em, inspected and registered that I'm like a little kid on Christmas morning.
  7. Sorry it took me a while but I finally had a chance to put up some pictures and hopefully try to get her up and running. . . hope those help y'all to help me.
  8. sure thing. I'll try to get some pictures up tonight or sometime tomorrow. . .
  9. I have the throttle body off of the 91 on there. i haven't done anything to the computer and would prefer not to. . . I know that one of the sensors on the truck won't hook up to the 99 engine block, but I think its just oil temp. I figured switching engines within the same family was a common thing but all I could find info on was dropping a GM v6/v8 or upgrading from a 4banger to the straight six.
  10. I have a 91 Comanche, 4x4, 5 spd ax15, that I'm trying to replace the engine on. It originally had a I6 HO in it. I bought an engine from a friend out work that is out of his 99 Wrangler, also a I6. I had it at a shop locally that I trust but they said I was pretty much SOL. I tweaked my motor mounts to get the engine dropped in and mated up to my tranny. power steering pump and alternator wouldn't mount onto the new (read 99) engine block. apparently it takes a different water pump as well, although the new one i bought for the old(read 91) fit perfectly. 99 also had what I believe is a magneto set up as opposed to the Distributor Cap my 91 had originally had; hooked up my Distributor and wires to my plugs. To make a long story short I had already purchased a new radiator and had everything minus the p/s and alternator wired up when I conceded and took it to said shop. The told me it ran, albeit rough and then took another couple of months to tell me they had done all they could. Now it is in different stages of disarray and come to find out they broke one of my plugs off in my block. I've been toying with this off and on for a year but with diesel down here at over $4.75 a gallon, driving my 84 Chevy CUCV M1008 is getting pretty pricey and I would like to sort my engine swamp fiasco out. I have no qualms with welding up my own bracket for power steering and or alternator. My Old (off of the 91)exhaust manifold and intake rail with MFI fit perfectly onto the new (99) engine. I still have all the parts (IE exhaust rail, fuel rail, alternators, P/S pump) from both engines. I just need help if anyone has dropped a newer I6 into an older Comanche or Cherokee. Feel free to email me @ obby787@yahoo.com with any help or advice (other than get a reman 91 block). Thank you, Bobby
