  1. I really like the idea of the doors with the boat canvas windows! and to follow the hi-jack, I'm 6'2 two-fiddy...in the process of swapping in some XJ buckets, with the bench I have tons of headroom, even more than in my XJ, but the legroom sux so I'm looking forward to sitting up a little higher.
  2. That rollbar's not stock Comanche  the diagonal should intersect the upright further down and it should attach to the front of the wheelwell not the top, you must have fabbed that up yourself or something :P :P Love the logo and I really think the magnet idea is cool too. 8)
  3. You could try going to your local Jeep dealers parts desk and asking...mine printed me out the build sheet for my '89 MJ. Also a carfax report will tellyou when it was first registered, fwiw 8)
  4. Yeah no complaint here either about the flex with the overload leafs....I remember reading sometime ago about flipping the overload leaf...anyone here try that?
  5. The YJ slip yoke is really only about 5/8" longer. My driveshaft was still a little short with the YJ slip yoke (6" lift). As fate would have it I twisted my driveshaft the first time out so I ended up getting it re-tubed to the correct length anyways. They aren't too hard to find since they're often traded out for CV driveshafts. Should be about $30, try ebay, and both jeepforum.com and jeepsunlimited.com have very active classifieds.
  6. Mine fits perfectly over the wheelwell between the rollbar (not factory MJ)and the bed rail. A pair of bungees hold it in place front and back and a rag underneath it keeps it quiet, it's actually very stable there and I can have it in hand when I need it in about 10 seconds. Not the best picture but...
  7. Maybe you could mount it somewhere other than the bumper not sure how legal this is but I haven't had any problems in over a year. Only problem is if you load up the bed it's not visible, but I don't do that much so I just take it off and hang it under the bumper with wire if I'm carrying a load any distance. If you are adding a receiver to your bumper you could make the plate removeable for the trail, get one of those plate lights like I've got and bolt it to the plate and wire it with quick disconnects, that'd be pretty slick.
  8. sounds like you're all set but FTR here's the 8.8 axle tag ID:
  9. I've got pretty much that exact MJ...4.0L, 5 spd, SOA, 8.8, 4.10's, 33's etc...it's a popular setup. The 4.10's are close to stock with 33's, maybe a little high, I don't use 5th too much on the highway but otherwise fine for daily driving and of-road. SOA on an 8.8 will give you more lift because of thicker tubes than a D35, 6" coils up front should match well. I've got Rubicon 5.5" XJ coils with a slight bit of forward rake. Only thing I did differently is I went with a '96 XJ D30 that had stock 4.10's, non-disconnect and comes with the larger 297-X u-joints...also I got lucky and had an AX-15 in my '89
  10. My '89 Pioneer came with rims kinda like in the big picture, except not as shiny and 5 lug with much smaller center caps. I've heard the referred to as the "Turbine" wheels and I've seen the same wheels on XJ's & MJ's from the late eighties. I never measured them but I assumed the size was 15 x7 with 5.25" backspacing which was pretty much the standard on XJ's
  11. Was there an option for an MJ with a taller stance than normal, like the 'up country' package for XJ's? Was the Metric Ton bigger at all?
  12. Somethings not quite right with that listing, I'd try to verify what exactly he is selling first. First, there was no 84-89 grand cherokee....and the 84-89 grand wagoneer was an SJ (FSJ) and I thought they usually had D44's with manual hubs? Also he has the same picture for everything from Honda's to Mercury's. Doesn't work for me anyways since I've got a 95 XJ D30 in my MJ and the hubs for 90-99.5 are different (found that out when I tried to re-use my old hubs in the new axle)
  13. Here's a nice write-up by Rick from the yahoo group about the XJ Bucket swap...hope he doesn't mind my posting a link to his page. 8) http://www.geocities.com/xjs4ever/seats_console.html
  14. I've always really liked your setup Pete 8) I'm just good at bolting stuff on, I really don't have the skill to make anything like that, but fortunately I know someone who does! My rear bumper (and rails and tire carrier) were made by Mark at Detours the bumper looks alot like the ones he makes for XJ's but is all custom fab. He really tucked it up close, it's one piece and the diamond plate ends wrap around to protect the rear quarters. The tire carrier is easily removeable and holds up to a 35. My front bumper is from Rigid and is the regular XJ winch bumper, actually I had this bumper on my XJ for half a year before I switched it to the MJ. The way the ends angle back makes it useful for squeezing through tight places, just put the bumper up against a tree or rock and give it a little wheelspin and it usually slips right by :P
  15. the easiest way would be if it still has the Axle ID tag bolted onto the Diff cover. the first set of number on the bottom row will be the ratio and if it has the trac-lock it will have an L: 4 10 = 4.10's open 4L10 = 4.10's with limited slip
  16. Love all the MJ's everyone! :-D Here's my '89... Specs are: 1989 Comanche Pioneer 4.0L NP231 AX-15 Short Box 34x10.50 LTB's on 15x8 AR-767 with 4" b.s. '96 XJ HP D30, 4.10's Open, 297-X shafts '99 Explorer 8.8, 4.10's Lock-Right, discs RE 4.5" ZJ coils RE HD adj. trackbar Rusty's fixed 6" XJ UCA's & LCA's Rusty's 6" XJ shocks F&R No swaybars Detours rear bumper Detours rock rails Detours bed mounted tire carrier Rigid winch bumper & Warn M8000 Factory skids all around Dakota (?) roll-bar
  17. yeah I'm running 5.5" RE coils and 6" Rustys upper & lower short arms no drop brackets, it's hopefully just a stepping stone until I can get some Claytons LA's but it rides OK. the 5.5" coils match SOA (on ford 8.8 ) just about perfectly 34x10.50 LTB's with front flares removed and fenders trimmed past 'crease'...rear was fine with stock flares and minor trimming
