  1. the donor is an 89 cherokee wagoneer which is an xj sorry didnt have time to get a pic while it was still light. long day today. hopefully by this weekend i can get a minute
  2. i have pics of the diff but the tags are too hard to see. i mean the pics are pretty good for a cell camera to be honest I'm starting to think that someone got the tags mixed up. do the dana 30 and 44 have the same diff cover? i just don't have time right now to open the cover and look I'm crazy busy with church and work right now plus I'm remodeling my house and a million other things. should be able to open it up on thursday and have a look see. was gonna try to go see a buddy that day to get him going on my long arm bracketts so i can get my three link set up and put this axle in there. anyways guys sorry I'm so slow I'm sure your all curious to see what the deal is. if i have a minute tomorrow ill crack the diff but i gotta move about 30 6x24 glue lam beams after work tomorrow. as if building houses all day wasnt enough now i build one after work! :headpop: I'm sure you all neede to know that ok tomorrow ill post up if i can
  3. ok and here's the numbers on the front diff tag 8953005004 3 54 46 with the same sapcing . the jeep is an 88 or 89 wagoneer that has been in the field at my inlaws for several years when ipulled it out and got it runnung but it makes a better donor in my book
  4. ok here's the pics ok [picture of the two tags and the diff my manche and the donor and the manche with the 2 wheel drive axle pulled
  5. ok about the lube.....not to be lame but its short for lubrication and a friction midifier is to add extra "lube"rication but who cares you call it lube i call it diff oil i live in stevinson california population 200 i don't claim to be all knowing I'm gonna get you a pic right now of the tag as far as limited slip being better is it better tahn open diff? cause i don't buy lockers for my stuff! if its that tight of a fit i don't belong there i built a tj for a buddy that had a custom home brew long arm setup on it that would leave behind the rubicon that our friend wheeled with but he was a really bad driver so we called it the boobicon anyways let me go take some pics and get em uploaded 8)
  6. you say its a friction modifier? does that sound like a special lube to anyone else? if you buy it at napa it comes in a white tube about 4 oz. or so maybe more.....ive changed gear oil before. the point of the post is are lsd's anygood offroad and it sounds to me like they are if you ride the brake a little. thats all i was looing for
  7. mine has 2 tags on it one like you said that is bolted from one bolt to another labeling the gearing and then one that is a tag under only one bolt that said use special lsd lube. which is as i said identical to the tags on the rear dana 44 which i know has a lsd and identical to my dodge diesel with a dana 80 which i know has a lsd. which led me to believe i had somehow gotten a factory lsd front. guess on wednesday or thursday I'm gonna have top pop the cover to satisfy the old curiosity. ill keep you posted. i have a pic of the diff but both tags arent visible enough to make it worth posting. ill get a better one and also one with a close up of the tags. anyways you guys know how amc is about this stuff.
  8. maybe i was jumping to conclusions... the rear has a lsd and my dodge has an lsd and the easy way to tell usually is they say to use a special oil for limited slips on the diff tag. well i saw this tag on the front diff and thought"well cool lsd up front" maybe I'm wrong.....could just be a special lube for the high pinion. also this is a non disco axle. i guess i could open it up to find out. on another note i have a question doe the axle shafts on the dana 30 have some sort of dust shield at the axle tubes or are my seals just crazy dry. i didnt stop and look real close to see what i was looking at but thought id ask
  9. i was working on pulling my donor axles yesterday and noticed that the front h.p. dana 30 has the lsd tag on it. I'm not quite sure what a limited slip works like offroad. i know they work ok for street racing but will they really give any advantage offroad?.....or rather does a front lsd work very well? not planning on changing it if not just curious is all
  10. man thanks so much. been trying to get this goin for a long time. atleast now i can work on the lift while I'm getting the stroker done. gives me something to do while I'm saving money ;) maybe i should rob a bank or something to pay for my jeep habit. or do like congress does and start a bill for increased education and add in a jeep fund earmark...think the president would veto it? anyways thanks again
  11. are your shocks 30 years old? that would be a good bit of info :brows: what they are trying to say is that shocks can wear out and cause a very rough ride because your suspension will have no travel also check your control arm bushings. my cousin have an xj that went around with a busted upper control arm for a year until i rode in it and told him that he had a problem. after i fixed it he said..."wow these jeeps really do ride nice don't they" what a nerd! anyways check your suspension top to bottom. also what size rim are you running? if your running 20's i don't want to hear you complain :D
  12. well i don't really need the directions......the only real question i have is how the heck do you know where the brackets go!!!! i keep reading these write ups and looking at the pics but no one says where the brackets go! i think they go just forward of the cross member but not all crossmembers are the same. does rk provide a measurement for their placement or am i way overthinking this and now i sound like a total moron(highly likely) i just keep wondering exactly where they go. everytime i have done an rk kit with my buddy at creasey offroad he had already had the brackets on and i have just hooked up the rest. i know it sounds really lame that i didnt pay more attention but now I'm 2 states away and i don't have his # soooo. mini a little help here bro and ill leave you alone(promise) also have more pics of the project going up soon as i can get a minute
  13. hey thanks a ton mini i should be able to do it with those pics also Motion don't worry about not being able to hook me up ill find a way around it thats what we jeepers do......thanks to mini here i have the pics and i can take those in and have them fabbed up. looke like my project will be rolling again. just got my donor towed to the house yesterday and am halfway done pulling the hp dana30. then i gotta fab some new brackets for the leafs. might have my laser cutter buddy copy the ube that mini used. looks easy enough. thanks again guys for all your help Motion one last request..... can you get me a set of directions for the rk kit? i know it sounds lame but ive don't like 3 rk kits and the directions are really good. I really appreciate anything you can do
  14. the reason i ask about the rk kit is i have half of it and they won't sell me the other half so I'm left buying a whole new kit.....yeah right any pics would be way cool
  15. those are both cool designs....man I'm lame my idea wasnt near as cool.
  16. hey guys looking for pictures of the lower arm brackets on a long arm kit. friend of mine is going to build me what ever type of skid / bracket setup i want i just have to get him a design. but i wanna see what clayton or rk is doing then I'm just gonna improve on that idea. also looking for install specs on the rk kit. not sure how long to set the arms and where to set brackets on frame...if that makes any sense. thanks guys

    hitch cover

hey guys how about we have a design contest for hitches. sketch it out and post your pic. well then do a poll and pic the winner. the one with the best design will get a fre hitch cover. ill have it all laser cut and tigged in stainless or other steel if you like. or if you have a design you want let me know and ill have a friend fab it out for a cheap price. the other day i was at his shop and he had an m-1 abrams that looks real smooth. also had a cool kangaroo post your designs on this thread lets say 2 weeks to enter? let me know what ya think.
  18. thanks for the info i think I'm gonna see what i can get a set of crown vic rims for. thanks for the help sure wish i was rich............id be done with this build by now. oh well thats life 8)
  19. i say do it and let me know how it goes. there are 100's of millions of people that will tell you you can't right up until they see it done. i just lifted a 2500# beam by myself at work the other day by using my smarts after everyone said it couldnt be don't without a crane truck. some times having a little more diverse knowledge comes in handy do it and then sell the product to everyone that said you couldnt shoo if its that cool id buy one too
  20. thanks 500mj ill look at that for sure. i really appreciate the info. 500mj do you have any pictures of your lower control arm brackets from you lift? rk won't sell me just the brackets :headpop: so I'm gonna have to fab something up. my buddy owns a laser cutting business so its not that big a deal i just wanna see how they make em. I'm thinking of doinga big plate like a belly skid. then i will reinforce the frame rails with some angle iron and bolt the belly skid to that and have the long arms tied to the belly skid.
  21. wow thanks man i appreciate the info. this swap will be from my 89 wagoneer to my 88 comanche. the wagoneer is complete so i have all the parts there at my disposal ;) once again thanks for the info. now just gotta drag my xj over to the house from the inlaws field about 5 miles away hoping to get that done today so i can get rolling on all the drive train swap while I'm saving money to complete my stroker build. xj has the hp 30 front and 44 rear with the aw4 and np231. its a cool rig but the comanche has a cool factor of x10 in my opinion
  22. gonna be swapping in my aw4 in place of the pukegoat......ive seen some threads on the elactronic controllers. the advantage i see is you can choose each gear rather than having 1st and snd combined. any other advantages? will my mj have the tranny controller wires already in the harness or will i need to run them? ive got the whole jeep so i can get any parts i need. just havent started looking at it yet and thought i would get an idea of what I'm up against before i do. thanks fellas
  23. easy way to check your tre is to have some one rock the wheel back and forth slowly while your hand is on the tie rod end. you will be able to feel the play in it. also a good way to check long arms to see if they are loose (not rock the wheel but rather the whole jeep) buddy of mine had a bad case of death wobble. shop told him they couldnt find anything wrong with it we went for a ride later and i felt it for the first time. the front shook so hard he had to lock up the tires to stop it problem was a loose drag link.....not loose enough for a visual inspection but you could definitely feel it when we checked it the way i am describing. just my .02 for ya
  24. this is the 4.2 donor for the stroker all stripped down couple pics of the the manche in front of house here's a pic of my three link and winch holder just waiting to .....go on some day and here's a pic of all the 4.0 stuff ive pulled so far
  25. what about the stang rims? do they have more backspacing?
