Leaf springs which ones?
GeneralSpring replied to Warthog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I scanned in some SRI (Spring Research Istitute) pages for the Comanche which lists every spring made from early 1900s and up. Different catalog every few years so there's a combination of them. Comanche_SRI.pdf -
Leaf springs which ones?
GeneralSpring replied to Warthog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Jeep put out a handful of different springs for the Comanche. Most were identical except for the arch. If yours came stock with a lower arch spring then you'll gain height but if yours came with the higher arch spring then will sit similar. Here's a snapshot of the different springs, number of leaves, grading and arch. -

Hey Guys, Wanted to reply sooner but been a while since I logged on and couldn't figure out my password but I'm here now. Going to get 10 of these built up for you guys and price will be $170 per side. Shipping is based off your state and zip code so the closer you are to me in Kansas City then typically the cheaper it will be with the exception of being those living in extended areas. Once these are close to done I'll post again and change the price on the site and then you can purchase the springs. Saw someone wanted to pick them up which is fine just give me a call so I can put the order through as the site will charge shipping as no option for local pick up. Thanks for setting this up knucklehead and you'll be hearing from me soon. -
Now I have a coil spring question.
GeneralSpring replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Took a picture of a page on my Spring Research Institute manual which lists every spring built since 1910. All of the 3/1's have the same rate because they are made out of the same gauge of steel but the capacity varies by the arch as the higher the arch the higher the capacity. Looks like there are 6 different arches on those year ranges on the 3/1 system meaning 6 different ride heights and that doesn't include the 3/2 and 4/1. Not sure why they put XJ for the 86 - 90 but is probably a typo or a way to differentiate between 86-90 and 91-93. This is a snapshot of the details of the springs but think some of you will like this info. -
Now I have a coil spring question.
GeneralSpring replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hey Eagle, There are 5 different 3/1 springs and they are rated at 960, 1100, 1160, 1220 and 1280 lbs. We can't list every spring for every vehicle because it would just confuse people greatly so we list what we sell which in the Comanche case is the 1280 and the 1500 3/2 spring. In the last 12 months we sold 48 pair of this particular spring and twice someone has said it's too tall meaning they probably had the lowest rated spring so not too bad of a ratio. Now if we sold one of the lower rated springs we would probably have 40 pairs coming back to us as being too low so we always go with the higher rated spring. We do list it as the 1280 lbs spring on our website so you know what capacity you're getting when it's ordered plus I'm sure 20+ pairs of the 1280's were probably sold to people on this forum so should be pretty easy to review. If you want a spring other than the ones we sell we'd have to modify the arch or just make a batch of them as well but everyone would have to know their part number before ordering because it's much worse to sit lower than higher. So for people who read this thread and want to be absoulutely sure of the spring you're getting then you'll need to get your factory part number for us so we can go over all the options. Hope this explains a little more Joe Wallace General Spring -
Now I have a coil spring question.
GeneralSpring replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hey Guys, See if I can put a little clarification to the leaf spring issue. The Comanche has multiple different 3/1 systems from 86-92 but there are 3 main ones. The gauge of steel is the same on all of them with 2/291, 1/276 and then the overload at 622. Where the springs differ is in the free arch of the spring itself so between the 3 the free arches put out by Jeep are 7-5/8, 9-1/4 and 10-1/4. The one we build is the 10-1/4 arch as 99% of people are going to have no idea which one of the 3 springs is on their truck so we will always lean towards the higher arch. Reason for this is the majority is fine going up in height either 1" or for some who have the lowest spring 2-1/2" which is definitely more but nobody is happy when their truck lowers after putting new springs on. So for 2/3 of the Comanche owners out there with the 3/1 system you will go up to stock height or up 1" over stock height. Problem is the lowest arch owners out there will go up probably over 3" with our spring due to the higher arch and the fact they are new. Only true way to combat this would be to get your actual part number somehow and let us know as we can change the arch before shipping if needed. As many of you know our springs for the Comanche are built in the USA and the highest quality you can buy so please don't think they were built wrong as the factor in height is simply related to what spring your vehicle came with from the factory. Hope this clears up the reason why some people bump up just a bit while others go up 3" with the same spring and if you have any questions feel free to email or call us. Joe Wallace General Spring -

When you say four left, is that four pairs, or four total? I'm likely going to be getting some, but can't until the summer sometime due being a broke college student. How soon do you expect these to be gone/ how soon do you expect to make another run based on the last run? I'd likely be looking at July... I have 4 total left so 2 pairs. Hard to say how long they will last as it could be 2 days or 2 months. The next run will be when there is enough interest generated to make at least 10 to keep the price the same. -

No problem still doing the $149.99 each for CC members you just need to call and to let everyone know there are 4 left and I know someone else is looking into them as well. Once they're gone no more will be made until at least 5+ people are interested to make a run of at least 10 which would be the same as last time at roughly 4 - 6 week lead time. -

Due to the differences in packages made by Jeep for the Comanche and figuring in your current sag is why I can't say this spring will give you x amount of lift. I can tell you if you're soa then you will see an even bigger increase because now you have to factor in the pack thickness which is a little less than 3/4" than the standard 3/1 spring (doesn't effect sua), the extra 3/4" arch put in this spring and just the fact these springs are stronger. So minimum lift on soa would be 1-1/2" but an educated guess would say closer to 2-1/4". -

The springs are bare metal but they do have a light grease coating on them to help against rust but you are certainly welcome to paint them just don't powder coat them and you'd be fine. You could take them apart rather easily if you'd like with the clip bolt style clips and then reassemble. Gogmorgo shipping would be a lot higher than $90 to Canada so if you follow the link from earlier and then add 2 to your cart and go to checkout you can calculate a rate to Canada. -

GeneralSpring replied to Biotex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The leaf springs are ready to go and we have had a pair fitted to ensure everything will bolt up and the wrap won't be a problem against the hanger which it is not. For those of you not coming from the factory 3/2 system the center bolt is a little bigger so you just have to drill out the spring perch to 9/16" which shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes because with this heavier spring comes a little bigger center bolt. I can't give you a guarantee on height because of the different OEM springs Jeep built and factoring in your amount of sag but the least lift you will get is 1-1/2" and the most will be around 3" so I have the springs on the website but the only way to find them is to have a link as they are not listed under the normal Comanche section I have and they are $149.99 each and they are pretty heavy weighing in at 67 lbs each so shipping will range from roughly $60 - $90 for a pair depending on your location. So you can either call Joe (me) at 1-888-829-0619 or here is the link to the 3/2 with military wrap leaf springs and be sure to order quantity of 2 http://www.generalspringkc.com/product_p/gsc-571.htm . Thanks for all of the input from everyone to help get this going. Joe Wallace www.generalspringkc.com -

We are having a run of 20 made so there will be some extras for those of you on the fence or waiting for tax refund checks and usually the worst case scenario on any run is about 6 weeks. There are a multiple different leaf springs which came with the Comanche so everyones height will vary but for the majority you will be looking at roughly 2-3" of lift. I would like to send out 1 or 2 pair to people who will install as soon as they receive the springs just to make sure there are no adjustments necessary. I don't plan on needing any modifications but better to be safe than sorry so make sure to post here, emaill or call to reserve your pair and also let me know how quickly you will be installing. Price for this spring will be $150 each ($300 / pair) which is $70 lower a piece than the normal 3/2 and this one has the requested modifications. Shipping will vary depending on location but expect to be around $50 for the pair give or take $15. -

The miltary will be on the front side which is where the leaf spring is most prone to fail. I don't think there would be enough room on the back side to even put a wrap but the rear rarely fails anyways. The military wrap serves 2 purposes the first being you get the support all the way to end of the spring which you could get by a 1/4 wrap so the main reason and most importantly for a full wrap is if the main breaks at the eye the wrap will hold it in place and you can still get the vehicle where it needs to go even with a broken main leaf on the front side. Also remember if you have the 3/2 spring from the factory you will only get a 1/2" lift out of these springs so this spring is going to be geared to those with a factory 3/1 system which is the majority of Comanche owners in order to obtain roughly 2" of lift. -

GeneralSpring replied to Biotex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So the key is to get at least 5 pair (10 total springs) in order to get the better price so it's looking as though the 3/2 with a military wrap is a go and kind of split over the next one of whether to go with a 3/1 or 4/1 and if any lift is desired with the other configuration or just stock with a wrap. As far as ordering once the springs are ready to go then I'll put a link to the spring on the site which only the people on this forum will have and then you'll just purchase them there or you can always call in your order as well. I''m not looking for any money up front because this will take a few weeks to be manufactured and would rather have the orders placed and shipped immediately than sitting on them for a while. We can always put a little extra arch in the 3/2 if desired as well so maybe the 3/2 with wrap on front eye with extra 1/2" arch or so and also need to figure out the other spring for people looking to remain closer to a stock stance or lift on that spring as well? -

GeneralSpring replied to Biotex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like the majority is after the 3/2 with a wrap around the front eye since the people who have previously purchased these springs say they give roughly 1.5" - 2" of lift. Are there any other modifications wanted to the 3/2 or a different spring built as well that would generate as much interest? -

GeneralSpring replied to Biotex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So are we thinking the metric tonne 3/2 leaf system but maybe putting a military wrap around the front eye? The factory front eye is a berlin meaning it's rolled on top and then bent back where the eye is even with the main leaf but if we are going to wrap the front eye it would be best to do a standard eye so I need to make sure there's no interference from the front hanger so if someone could put up a good picture of the front eye going into the hanger I'd appreciate it to make sure we get it correct. -

Hello everyone, My name is Joe and I'm the owner of General Spring and Eric told me about these forums and said you might be interested in some leaf springs so I'm here to see what we can do for you. I know some of you have already purchased leaf springs from us before so I want to say thank you for that. Now, Eric came to us looking for a few different options of different capacities and different lifts so in order to get you the best price we'll need about 5 pairs of whichever design is most needed or multiple designs so we already have the metric tonne spring which is a 5(3/2) system which raises roughly and inch or two depending on sag. Eric was interested in a stock replacement but building a wrap around the front side of the main leaf and also a bit heavier spring so a 4(3/1) with about 2" of height figured in so just trying to get a feel for your needs so let me know. I did call Hells Creek about purchasing their prints since those were a popular spring but they wanted more than we are willing to spend so anytime 2" - 3" is desired it's pretty easy to hit that mark just going off OEM springs which is the route we are going to take. Thanks again for the previous purchases and I look forward to helping you guys out in the future just need some input as direction to take so let's see some responses and we'll take it from there.
