  1. Second tailgate on my 86' Comanche... Purchased off ebay 20+ years ago... Also sold my factory NIB tailgate I was saving a few years back. But it had not been painted or badged...
  2. Wow... on a whim I checked my glove box and there it was. My original owners manual. It shows the drain on the bottem and the fill on the passengerside just like mine. Still have no idea what model it is though... Looks more like a AX15 than the AX5... But then again it is a AMC from the old days...lol...+
  3. So I have a 1986 XLS 4x4 with the 2.8L motor. The 5 speed transmission has the drain plug on the bottom and the fill plug is located on the PS. I can't find a tag to ID. This is the original transmission since I have owned this Comanche since new... Can anyone tell me the transmission model. Or where I might find the tags. Every manual I have looked at doesn't show the drain or fill plugs in the location of those on mine. This is a US make. Any ideas out there?...
  4. So perhaps you can give me a clue what's up with my radio. I have a 1986 MJ comanche. It has the stock... original radio. It is a RX-135... Model 8956001651.... With the 4 speaker system. I have owned my Comanche since 1989. Never had any problems with the radio. It always powers up. But lately the sound works and then goes go. It will come back on for a while. Then goes back down to very low. Almost inaudible. I check all the plug connections. Everything looks like new. I had never even had the unit exposed until a week ago. It is almost like the power amplification is cutting in and out. Any ideas? I really want to keep this all stock and original if possible. Thanks...
  5. I have a 1986 XLS 4X4 with the 2.8L V-6. The clutch slave cylinder is leaking and needs to be replaced. I can get to the bottom bolt, But can not reach around the cylinder to get the top one. Do I need to drop or lower the transmission? Or I'm I just missing something? Anyone have any tricks or suggestions?
  6. Can anyone tell me where the tach sensor is located? I have the 2.8L V-6 motor. My tach on my 1986 Comanche works but is reading about twice the correct rpms. Always worked fine in the past. I am thinking maybe the tach sensor is corroded or is faulty. Any ideas? Anyone else ever had this problem? Thanks...

  8. Just not working the magic enough! I got it! Thanks...
  9. I can't figure how to get the window crank handle off my 1986 Comanche. Checked for lock clip, like on chevys but none there. Don't see a set screw either. Can someone help me out here? Thanks...
  10. Will a Dana 44 assembly out of a 1987 Jeep Cherokee fit (work) with my 1986 Comanche? The unit is complete with housing, brake cables and even the rear brakes and drums. Is this the same as a metric ton rear end? I'm not planning any real hard core off roading, but would like the additional load carrying and axle strength for some larger (33) tires for the lift.
  11. Does anyone use a poptop camper with their comanche? I have a 1986 XLS LB and was thinking of using a Four Wheel camper. I can't seem to find any info on what the payload capacity is for my truck. On the door jam it states "2700 lbs RA. The camper I'm looking at weighs only 800lbs. My plan is go over everything that needs rebuilt and fix her up better than new. Then take her down the Baja coast next year. I have a 4X4. Any help? Thanks...Dennis...
  12. Does anyone know where I can find a set of headers for a 1986 2.8L V6 motor? Have decided to replace the single exhaust and would like to maybe get a little more HP by going with a set of headers. Thanks...Dennis...
