  3. Thanks guys. I'll make sure that the sending/sensor units are for the gauges and not idiot lights. I am also getting a new gauge cluster with a Tach meter. Yea, I've got a Haynes Repair manual, but it doesn't have any part numbers and, the troubleshooting section is kinda small, not much about any tricks or anything. not to mention the section about the gauge/instrument cluster is a few sentences long. hope to get the new cluster soon, and not much trouble installing it. Thanks again for the help. You guys have really made it easier to fix this MJ up and get it in good running condition! Chris
  4. Sounds great! I'll be sure that the gauge cluster is from the same engine. Thanks for the responses. Chris
  5. the trick worked. I took the tape off and still nothing, but touched the pink to the ground and it went to H. I'll be replacing the sensor soon! Thanks again for the help! Chris
  6. Hey guys, again. I am planing on putting a new gauge cluster (broke the old one trying to get it out, the sun had gotten to the plastic and it was super brittle) in and the one i'm looking at has a tach gauge. my old one had a big speedo, big gas gauge, a small oil, temp and bat. was wondering what it would take to make the new tach gauge fit and the smaller gas gauge work in the new cluster. maybe someone could refer me to a write up or some type of instruction. Was also wondering about how to hook the actual tach meter up to the engine. Thanks for the help in advance Chris
  7. your right. I never took that into consideration. I'll unwrap them and fix that. It was although not working even before I wrapped the threads, so i'll try Hornbrod's trick to see whats up. All you guys are a great help! Thanks Chris
  8. This will help you narrow it down: 1. Ignition to RUN. Pull the wire off the sensor. The gauge should go to C. If not, 2. Touch the coolant sensor wire to ground. The gauge should go to H. If it does, replace the sender. If it does not, you have an open circuit to the gauge, or the gauge itself is bad. Thanks Hornbrod. I'll check this before I tear the cluster out of the dash. I'll let you know tonight! Thanks!
  9. Thanks roger21maynard. I looked at that yesterday actually and found the wire attached. I pulled the sensor and cleaned it a bit, then wound some plumbers tape around the threads and put it back in. Then to make sure the connection was touching securely, I applied slight pressure to the clip and slipped the pink wire back in to the sensor, and still nothing. hopefully either this afternoon or tomorrow I'll pull the cluster and make sure it has the pink wire going to it. thanks again for the help and any suggestions. And thanks for the link to the site, the last picture is the sensor I pulled*. Chris
  10. Hey everyone. I've been working and testing a lot of the wiring in the MJ, and now its time to look at the Temp gauge on the cluster. I haven't pulled the cluster out yet, but will do so soon. I was also thinking about putting a new sensor in. If anyone has any suggestions at to what to look for if it still doesnt work after the new sensor and a check behind the cluster, it would be appreciated. Thanks! Chris
  11. Yep, The spring was missing. I think I'll be able to fab a new one and get it workign properly. Thanks again!

  13. Hey everyone. I had a question about the parking brake in my Comanche. When I go to press on the brake, it does not make a clicking sound while being depressed, and when I lift my foot of it springs back up. I do although see the small red brake light when the pedal is depressed. Does anyone know what may be wrong?? Thanks Chris
  14. Thanks Guys!!!!!!!! I noticed that it felt like there wasn't much rear breaking power....... I'll try to fab something up so it starts working again! Thanks again guys for the replys and the great help!!! hopefully i can scrounge someting up and make it work better. Chris
  15. I was changing the tires and wheels off my truck the other day, and while I was doing it, I was checking the brake lines, and for bad rust (small island, water, EVERYWHERE). I noticed a small dangling thing that looked like is connected to one of the brake lines. I poked it and it spun freely. I have attached a picture of it below. I was wondering if it necessary to stop it from spinning and maybe connect it to the axle seeing as the two have similar attachment points close together? Thanks for the help guys
  16. thanks guys. I'll look around a bit more to see if I can find any on ebay or the internet, but if not I'll ask on here for them. thanks for the offers! Chris
