Truck Broken Into Last Night Now Will Not Start

Last not someone broke into my truck and stole my radio. I believe they also tried drive the truck because it wasn't where I parked it last night. I went to start the truck this morning and it will not turnover. When I turn the key in the ignition it just makes a high pitched screeching sound. Anyone have any idea what the bandits could have done?

I agree...somehow they did damage to the starter is what it sounds like.
