Frame Rot

'91 'Manche LWB 4.0 4WD 5spd.

 

Is frame rot common on MJ's--I just spent 2 days welding and fabbing to fix my frame. Pass. side just started to crack above the rear axle. The drivers side was nearly gone behind the gas tank between the front of the spring and up to the high point above the axle--I think the box was the only thing holding it together.--back from the dead now though I think. While I was under there I discovered that whomever installed the crappy add-a-leafs didn't put a long enough shock in--WHAM!...WHAM!-know what I meen? Rear shocks for a '71 Imperial have about 6" more extened length and are only $17 at ROCK AUTO. Gas tank almost fell out too--was missing the middle and rear strap due to the rot. Gotta love those salty Canadian winter roads!

It's not incredibly common, but not unheard of either.
