Lift & Tire Question/Opnions

Recommended Posts

OK just starting the my cheap lift on the Comanche Devil. Put in the T-Bird springs upfront. Netted 4" lift, today I made sway bar disco's from 2000 Grand links , this weekend I will be lifting the rear, so here is the Question. Do I re-arch the spring pack to achieve the 4" needed or make up longer shackles, or do the both? And about how much arch to net 4"? I know for a 3" lift the springs need a 5" arcs for a 4" would you go 7" or 8"arc? Don't want to do a soa because i will get 4.5-5" and thats too much. Now for tires do I go with 31" or 32"? I want some opinion I know there are only a 1" but what is the pros/cons. Need some experience opinions.

Are you re-arching the springs yourself or paying a shop to do them? If you are paying someone, you may as well just buy new packs from Hell Creek or one of the lift companies that offer full packs. Hornbrod got his from another spring specialist and really likes them, I can't remember the name but I'm sure he'll see this and identify. TAZ has the Hell Creeks and I think he's pretty happy with them too.

Based on your first sentence of doing a "cheap lift" you can always go the AAL route and extended shackles. You definitely don't want to accomplish that much lift through shackles alone though. tjbliley just did about the same amount of lift and he did an AAL and chevy drop shackles and netted a solid 4" he said.

As for the tires, depends on other factors, i.e. if you want max flex or if "really good flex" meets your wheelin needs so you can put more tire under there for looks. I think the 32's would look good IMO. If you haven't already, don't forget to factor rubbing depending on what wheels your using and if you've done anything w/your LCAs. Are the 32s 10, 11, or 12 fitty's? I've seen that diameter in several widths. 11s and 12s will deff rub unless you've addressed backspacing and such. Just my $.05 worth of opinion, so that and a dollar might get you a small cup of coffee at 7-11 :brows:

Std 3" arc/lift on the AAL, not sure which brand he used. Don't know the part # or model year for the chevy shackles were. One advantage they may have is they have 2 holes and from what guys have reported there is about 1" of lift difference between the two mounting positions, so some added flexibility.
