djag12
My voltage gauge reads about 12v is this correct I know most new cars read 14v. Only asking cause I just had a new alternator installed and wanted to make sure everything is OK?

Check it out with a known good calibrated VM across the battery at idle and at 2000 RPM or so.
deziped
If your battery is good with engine and all accessories off it should read 12 volts between + & - posts. With engine running you should have about 14 to 14.5 volt reading between battery posts. Check it with a voltmeter.

mvusse
Voltmeter on my dash sits right near the top of the normal range, and drops down a bit with lights and heater fan running. Too cold out right now to see what the number on that spot of the gauge is, as well as test the actual voltage across the battery with a tester.
