bn6339 Posted January 25, 2008 Share Posted January 25, 2008 Hey all, Lurker here again, was gonna start my clutch master/slave conversion, and noticed one of the seat fasteners was a little damp, you know the rest of the story...RUSTY!!!! I have a couple holes near the rear of the cab, but not at the rear cab seam. Now, I want to REPLACE the floorboard, since there's significant pitting, etc. Who here accomplished this, and left everything mostly stock? Pitfalls? I searched, but nothing really specific, mostly pics.... I'm probably gonna buy the floor repair panels, though some would say just to buy sheet steel, I want the appropriate strengthening ribs....advice welcomed, as I'm a total newbie with this work....I do have an expert welder (at least compared to my level, which is the basement) helping me, so I'm covered there......TIA! Kenosha Warrior Posted January 25, 2008 Share Posted January 25, 2008 give'r 90 thats part of Jeeping in general, I just took 3 nights to redo the floor in my XJ front to back (incl cargo area) When I did my manche's floor, my dad and I just used 22ga patches and some silicone to seal it with a metric-tonne of self-tapping screws. It held up fine. If you want to CUT out the rough spots, go for it, but make sure you know whats on the other side. I already used some patch panels a couple years ago, but the rust is already working its way around them. I wanted to start fresh and properly undercoat the new floor pans and Herculiner the inside of the cab. Never replaced floor pans before... advice would be great. IMO just put patches over it, and if you're worried, do the entire floor with patches. +1 My DS floor was a lost cause, so I cut it out an made a new pan, but on the PS and elsewhere in the cab I used the old sheetmetal, silicone and self tapping screw method.
