4.0newbie2026 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Hello! I am new to the forums and MJs in general. I have a full 2001 Solar yellow swap. Was going to do front end including the hood. My question is will the 2 piece glass, hand crank window track and door latch from an 87 fit into an 01 door shell with little to no modification? my mj sadly was beat on and is definitely a project. Working with what I have and saving money on paint if possible. I know 96 and below are direct bolt ons. I just don't have one. TIA
Eagle_SX4 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I put the large windows in my '87 doors so it should be possible to go the other way. There are lots of little things that need to happen to get them to work properly. Save your self the trouble and keep the large windows in the 2001 doors.
4.0newbie2026 Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 If i kept the glass in the door, would it work with the hand crank window track? Or should i just plan on doing body work on the door?
Eagle_SX4 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 If you want manual windows. You will need to source some manual regulators from +97 Cherokee. The '87 regulators won't work with the '01 windows If you are going to use the '01 doors you will need to change latch on the cab to the newer style, which usually involves cutting and welding.
4.0newbie2026 Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 Is there a particular reason why I'd have to swap the latch out? My idea was to swap all internals, glass, manual regulator and striker into the 01 shell then bolt it on. I guess it'd be easier to find a 96 and older door and just plug and play?

I mistyped, I did mean the striker on the door jam would need to be replaced with the newer style which is not a bolt on replacement and requires some fab work to get it installed. A pre 96 door would be the easiest solution to replacing a messed up door. I had to space the +97 regulator away from the internal door skin to get it aligned correctly. Which means if you went the other way it would mean you would have to cut and weld the inner door skin or regulator to get it in the correct place.
