aris_garage_builds
I'm currently refurbishing a 4.0 HO HVAC Box to swap into my MJ. Mine did not come with factory AC, so I'm planning on adding it while I already have the dash pulled apart for my 4.0 swap. Although I ran into a bit of a speed bump - while disassembling the HVAC box I broke the thermostat / probe that connected the the AC evaporator core. I'll include a picture below of the part. I've done some researching and it appears this part is no longer made / quite hard to find. Is there a good option for replacing it? If not is there a way to bypass it? Or possibly a way of upgrading to the 97+ AC core that doesn't have the probe? I'm using a 95 / HO wiring harness for the engine swap so would love to avoid OBDII parts if possible. Appreciate any advice, thanks!
AZJeff
Are you trying to use the evaporator from a 97+ XJ in your MJ? If so, doesn’t that require the use of the corresponding heater box?

However the probe for the evaporator was corroded and broke during disassembly, so I'm looking for the best option to replace it. They seem difficult to find nowadays. Just looking for advice on how to find a replacement or figuring out a plan B if I can't.
eaglescout526
I wonder if the Renix one would work. Those can surprisingly be had new.
AZJeff
I have only seen pictures of a pre-1997 heater box disassembled, as the only ones I have ever torn apart came from 97+ XJ's. From what I remember, the actual heater box on the later design is physically different than the earlier design, which means the heater core and evaporator cores probably are different as well. Renix heater/evaporator cores should be the same as the later (pre-97) ones, as they did not change the heater box, to the best of my knowledge, and that would make the suggestion of@eaglescout526 viable. Would you happen to know the part number for those or where to find them?
eaglescout526
56002688 This should be it. Looked it up on crown autos website and it shows that part number.
