LoSwap88
I just recently bought a 1986 Comanche with the 2.5 fuel injected I4, previous owner removed the sending unit and it was lost. When the sending unit was removed he pulled the wires off the unit and there was a tag on it that says 16 gal but I thought the long beds came with a 23.5 gal tank? From what I read on here, if it has three tank straps (like mine has) it would be a 23.5 gal tank and if it had two it would be a 18 gal tank. But either way I can’t find anything online that says for an 86. I would assume since everything I find online says 87-90, the 86 and older tanks have something proprietary to them? I would like to find something cheap because I plan on cutting this jeep up but it would be quite convenient for it to run to move around
eaglescout526
So the only unique thing to an 86 MJ sending unit is the size of the pump it can accept. Otherwise 86-92 long before fuel tanks are all the same. Now internally there is a baffle that separates the 16 and 23.5 gallon tank. Oh and the sending units is different but not my much. The length of the float arm is different. Somewhere around here I made a post about the fuel tanks and the sending units. Also the 18 and 23.5 gallon sending units are interchangeable between the two tank sizes but are completely different tanks. Hopefully that answers some questions.
