vhfr1289
First of all I'm new to the forum but not to the Comanche's, mine is a 1991 metric ton originally ordered by a local town as a public works truck and served in that capacity until I picked it up in December 2019. Since then I've been on the interesting journey of keeping this very unique vehicle on the road. I never realized how rare these things were until I got it and wish I had taken one for a spin back when they were still in production. I would have bought one brand new had i know how much fun they are, I've had a Chevy S10 and a Ford Ranger and the Comanche by far has them beat for payload, and handling. This brings me to my question, my rear shocks have gone out and I've spent the past couple days online trying to find the proper shocks to put on it. None of the parts distributors show anything different for the ton truck for that matter none of them show that model period. Surely with the higher gvw they put heavier rated shocks on these at the factory, and what about the front struts as well? I'm planning on replacing the shocks, struts, bushings, and ball joints while I have it torn apart but would like to keep it pretty stock with regards to ride hight and whatnot. Thanks in advance for any guidance. Chris
vhfr1289
Okay thanks to a link to the factory parts catalog posted by Minuit I found the OEM part numbers for the shocks and struts. the front appears to be 8350 2510 and the rear is either 8350 3448 or 8350 2514. Those bring up quite a few options for replacement shocks so I'm open for any recommendations on best options from the group, I'm not overly concerned on the cost more concerned with blowing out a shock while hauling a load in the truck. Most of the time I use the truck for hauling firewood or building supplies and have on numerous occasions excided the working load of the truck, the old girl is squirrely enough with the sloppy ball joints but she's a handful when she's overloaded in the back, kinda like driving a big boat
89 MJ
I like KYBs and the higher end Monroe shocks. Though if money wasn’t an issue, I think Bilsteins would be the way to go.
