  1. So just to update yall evidently I didn't need to put a socket on it in the first place because it was one of these things(see picture below), when I looked at it the other day the daylight was fading fast and it was rather dirty in the hole it was hidden inside. I was able to get back to it Saturday and was successful in completing the replacement of everything on the driver's side and with any luck I'll be able to wrap up the passenger side on Wednesday. Thanks for the suggestions though, they are appreciated even though it wasn't as much of a problem as I originally thought.
  2. So I'm 3/4 the way through replacing my entire front suspension on my 91 metric ton and I'm now on the upper and lower control arms and I've run into an odd issue. The upper rear bolt (frame side) is an odd size 15mm is too big 14mm is too small and it's not 9/16 either but the darn thing is in a recessed hole so I can't get an adjustable wrench on it, I'm open for suggestions if anyone else has run into this issue. I also ran into t50 bolts on the axle side which is contrary to all the videos I've seen with the bolts having a flange on it. Its days like today that i really hate working on jeeps, I guess I'm a glutton for punishment because I've owned a 95 YJ since new and its a royal pain in the butt too, it's an end of production model and occasionally I have to buy TJ parts because it's got a mix bag of parts on it.
  3. Second owner of 1991 metric ton which spent most of its life as a public works truck with the town of Lake Lure and I've had it for about 7 years and it currently resides in Hendersonville Nc. As a public works truck it was pretty plane no radio, no cigarette lighter, gray vinyl bench seat, vinyl floor, 6 cylinder, automatic RWD. Currently has about 120k miles on it and is used pretty much weekly for hauling building supplies, firewood, ect. The only modification currently was installing a cigarette lighter so I can charge a phone.
  4. Okay thanks to a link to the factory parts catalog posted by Minuit I found the OEM part numbers for the shocks and struts. the front appears to be 8350 2510 and the rear is either 8350 3448 or 8350 2514. Those bring up quite a few options for replacement shocks so I'm open for any recommendations on best options from the group, I'm not overly concerned on the cost more concerned with blowing out a shock while hauling a load in the truck. Most of the time I use the truck for hauling firewood or building supplies and have on numerous occasions excided the working load of the truck, the old girl is squirrely enough with the sloppy ball joints but she's a handful when she's overloaded in the back, kinda like driving a big boat
  5. First of all I'm new to the forum but not to the Comanche's, mine is a 1991 metric ton originally ordered by a local town as a public works truck and served in that capacity until I picked it up in December 2019. Since then I've been on the interesting journey of keeping this very unique vehicle on the road. I never realized how rare these things were until I got it and wish I had taken one for a spin back when they were still in production. I would have bought one brand new had i know how much fun they are, I've had a Chevy S10 and a Ford Ranger and the Comanche by far has them beat for payload, and handling. This brings me to my question, my rear shocks have gone out and I've spent the past couple days online trying to find the proper shocks to put on it. None of the parts distributors show anything different for the ton truck for that matter none of them show that model period. Surely with the higher gvw they put heavier rated shocks on these at the factory, and what about the front struts as well? I'm planning on replacing the shocks, struts, bushings, and ball joints while I have it torn apart but would like to keep it pretty stock with regards to ride hight and whatnot. Thanks in advance for any guidance. Chris
