Undy MJ
Questions for Comanche owners..My 1986 Comanche X has been setting a while. Had trouble starting it. Had to keep priming the carburetor but it kept shutting down. Finally dumped alot more gas into it then it ran for a while Cut off again and won't start back up....Your thoughts please ??????? Thanx in advance.......Robert
89 MJ
I’d pull the fuel line going to the carb and seeing if it’s pumping fuel. If it’s not, it’s probably the fuel pump. If it is pumping, I’d say it’s an issue with the carb and that needs rebuilt.
GonzoTheGreat
I believe the carburetted engines have a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine itself. I'm not sure where the older MJs have a fuel filter, but it's probably also on the engine, after the pump. Make sure you have fuel flow from the filter to the bowl while cranking. If you're getting fuel to the carb, then, like @89 MJsaid, the bowl and/or jets are probably gummed up from sitting, and the carb will need a good cleaning. This is general carbed engine info. Hopefully someone with one of these engines can chime in with the specific location of these components. For reference, is this the 2.5L four cylinder, or the 2.8 V6 engine? If you put your truck's specs in your signature, it makes it easier for people to help.
