Trouble with Vac lines. 86’ MJ

I’m sorry, I know this topic has been beat to death and I’ve read hours worth of it. However I can’t seem to figure out my vacuum lines. The more I read the more I’m getting lost 🤣 
 

First off, can’t seem to pass emissions here in CO. Which lead me to believe it’s to do with the vacuum lines. 
 

Everything seems right on the “throttle” side. 
 

On the hvac side I have the “football” canister. Currently disconnected. Two ports on each side. Only two hoses that could potentially connect. One hose slightly bigger than the other. Do they both connect to one “half” of the reservoir? Both lines have suction. 
 

The smaller hose “t’s” off and goes into the firewall. However I notice there is another port right next to this on the firewall that isn’t connected to anything.

 

any help is appreciated. I will attempt pictures tomorrow.

I should add that my MJ is equipped with cruise control.

All the football does is hold vac for both HVAC controls and cruise control. 
 

86 is the odd year for the 2.5L

But if you have the V6 2.8L, that’s a whole other story.

I have plugged in the hoses in every possible way and still get the “defrost only”

Hard line to the HVAC could be dry rotted. Not uncommon of an issue since the hard plastic lines are almost 40 years old.
