97for86
Hey, this may be a somewhat silly question, but where is the fuel filter located on the 86 Comanche 2.8L V6? I've got the replacement filter but I'm a bit slow and can't figure out where it is so I can replace it 😆  Any assistance or diagram/image would be very helpful! Thanks for your time.
Spinnakerblue89
Assuming it's a carbureted 2.8, the fuel filter is likely going to be INSIDE the carburetor, or perhaps attached to it on the outside. Usually it's a small cylinder, like a mini fuel filter compared to what you see today. If I'm wrong on that, someone can correct me. If it's anything like the FORD 2.8, the fuel filter is attached to he fuel line going IN to the carb, and may just be a matter of unthreading it.  I wonder, is the GM 2.8 outfitted with a mechanical fuel pump just like the Ford 2.8? I think your right about the location of the carb and it being inline with the fuel line at the carb. I also do believe it is a mechanical fuel pump. When I had my 86 Comanche, I was going to do the same but when I realized how much painful work was involved in changing that little filter I just gave up.
coheed
Yes on the 2.8 it's inside the carb. If you look at the bottom of the block on the driver's side there's a mechanical fuel pump that'll have 2 rubber lines coming in and a metal one going up to the carb. You have to undo the meal line going into the carb and the little metal cylinder that it goes into is the housing. That then unscrews from the carb and you can slide the filter out. Installation is opposite of removal.  Rockauto has the reprints of the FSM decently cheap and it'll have all the diagrams you'd ever want. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=12534281&cc=1181393&pt=10335
Spinnakerblue89
I have to say, there are two schools of thought that I am reminded of today. If that mechanical fuel pump is as fun to change as the one on the Bronco II is, you are going to have colorful words for the engineers whenever you have to change it. If it isn't so bad, then nevermind.  Sometimes it is advocated to add an inline fuel filter in between the fuel tank and the mechanical pump, to protect the pump itself. And sometimes it is also advocates to replace the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one. Now, I'm not entirely sold on the latter idea, I can't say I disagree with the former.
