tdtony
The stock speedometer cable in my truck bound up and the tip that goes into the transfer case broke off. I ordered a replacement part from Rockauto, but the cable was too long. The cable that was on my truck was 70", the one rock auto sells is 94". I've been looking online but a lot of the websites don't have the cable length or good pictures so I can't tell if they would connect to the gauge cluster correctly. Does anyone have parts number or a suggestion for a replacement speedo cable?
Spinnakerblue89
Do you have cruise control or no?
tdtony
No cruise control, and it it's the plastic snap on connector at the gauge cluster not the metal screw on
tdtony
On 7/26/2018 at 1:10 PM, a bum with money said: Did some research on speedometer cables and found these jeep p/n's with discriptions and illustrations. https://cdn.xjjeeps.com/pdf/en-us/1988-to-1990-parts-catalog.pdf pages 723 and 724. I hope this is readable, I still trying to figure out this smartphone stuff. well I wasn't able to get it in the right position to read. anyway I put this up because 1. has original jeep P/N's and 2. they break it down to 4cyl or 6cyl, 2WD, 4WD, W or W/O cruise, and some with lengths. I've noticed that some part house's use jeep p/n's to indicate what they replace. some of these could be interchangeable with each other with only the difference being the length, I don't know. I posted this as a guide line to replacing a speedometer cable. as an example I pulled my speedometer cable out of my 1988 MJ 2WD, 6cyl and it measured out about 70 inches long which matches the description. but they're are 2 different P/N's, but have the same length. I found a post, that has the part number as 53004953 or 53001990, but I can't seem to find anyone selling it
tdtony
I found another thread on here that suggests ATP Y-924 which is 77" long and for 88-90 4WD, but should work for my truck
Spinnakerblue89
I seem to recall my speedo cable being of a similar length. I did have a plastic connector, as well. However, I do not have 4wd, so I'm not so sure my situation is very applicable. I wish I knew more.
