nicholasdances Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Hello, I just got back into the Comanche game after a 10 year hiatus. I have a 2WD 88' with the 2.5 unfortunately it has the automatic. Id like to swap a 5 speed into it. Is the ax15 the best option? Or is it just easier to go with whatever the factory 5 speed that came with these was? Thank you.

It’d be somewhat difficult, but not impossible to put an ax-15 behind a 4cyl, first you need to find a dodge Dakota bell housing since the 4cyl has a different bolt pattern to the 4.0 (in some Dakotas they put AX-15’s behind the 2.5l), then you’ll probably have a bit of difficulty finding a 2wd ax-15 to bolt to it, or you could do a 4wd swap, but you would need all the parts that associate with that, so yes you could but you’ll probably spend a lot of money or time trying to get all the parts you need. You could go with the ax-5 (5speed from a 4cyl) but those are pretty weak to begin with.

I don't want to spend a ton of time hunting down parts on this. Thank you for the information.
