jaystrawn135
I have a 88 jeep comanche 4.0, 2wd, automatic. When I'm put in park after driving the key doesn't want to turn off, and when starting it, it has to be in neutral or it won't start most days. Pete M
starting in 'neutral' but not 'park' usually means it's time to clean the NSS.

Thanks boss, I'll look into that. What would be making the key stick in the run position though? I'm thinking it's either a ignition is worn or the ignition is not unlocking after being put in park. I know some of the newer vehicles have safeties like that but I didn't know if something this old would. Didn't want to throw parts at it so I figured I'd see if someone has ran into it before. Pete M
it sounds like it's all worn out, but I'm no expert on the key cylinders.

The Park interlock shouldn't affect turning the engine off. You can do that with the transmission in gear. The interlock only affects turn the key far enough to lock the steering column and remove the key. You may need to adjust the ignition switch push rod in the steering column, or you may need a new key cylinder.
jaystrawn135
Awesome thanks guys, it was the ignition switch itself that was sticking after all. Still gotta take care of the nss, but I'll just put a new one on and clean the old one and keep it with my spare parts. Thanks for your time y'all.
