error code P0705

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. My 1988 comanche has a 97+ interior/engine/obd2 swap and the check engine light is on. I ran a scan and the error code is P0705 ( Transmission range sensor circuit malfunction)  I believe this has something to do with my PRND being off. what I mean by that is when the jeep is in park the orange on the shifter shows it on the P. but when the jeep is in reverse the orange thing on the shifter is in the "blank" space between the P and the R. then when the vehicle is in N it shows that it is on R and so on. is there a simple fix to this? what could be the issue here? ive never ran into this issue before.

Are you just looking at the trim panel on the shifter? Floor or column? If so, I don’t think it’s connected to anything other than the shifter handle.

As to the trans error code, I’m not sure. You don’t mention if the trans was swapped along with everything else, and if it wasn’t, it won’t necessarily play nice with the OBD2 system. Because the trans is standalone from the ECU in older systems it’s easy enough to leave the Renix trans controller in place, which will trigger a check engine light in an OBD2 system that’s looking for the trans and can’t find it. I don’t know what codes it will throw, though, having never done the swap myself.

it would be a floor shifter. i assumed the transmission from the 97+ cherokee was swapped over but never confirmed that. ill have to do some research and see if i can confirm the trans is from a 97+

Should be a production tag with a date code on it… somewhere. I think passenger side? but it’s not fresh on my mind.
