I own 2 trucks, an ‘02 Yukon and an ‘88 MJ Pioneer, but I am selling my Yukon this week so the time has come to start upgrading my jeep. My MJ developed death wobble, so I am about to start replacing a lot of the front steering components, then plan on overhauling the suspension+Lifting slightly, then I would like to replace the fuel pump before the winter hits. This is where I start to get lost. It is my first time working on a vehicle, buying my own parts etc, and I have noticed a myriad of options available for the fuel pump (in tank, external, etc). I'm regards to the fuel pump, get a Bosch replacement in-tank pump specific to your 88 MJ. There are no advantages to an upgraded fuel pump on a stock engine. As to every other upgrade out there, the sky is the limit. the members here have done almost every “upgrade” there is and can provide a lot of feedback once you have more specific ideas in mind for mods. The first thing likely anyone will recommend though is doing the mods found on the Cruiser54 website. These “mods” are updates to the aging electrical system that will improve drive ability and reliability. Once those items and your “death wobble” have been addressed and you have a great running and driving truck, that the best place to start modding. dasbulliwagen Posted September 22, 2021 Share Posted September 22, 2021 After lifting and replacing all your front end components, get a professional alignment, and tell them to make sure they check and adjust the caster as well. Most alignment places only want to do a toe and go. Caster is an important angle considering death wobble. When I converted mine to 4x4, I was in a hurry to drive it and didnt check caster, and I got death wobble. After re doing the alignment and getting caster as close to stock as possible, I havent had a problem since. That was all before I lifted it. I used adjustable upper and lower control arms when I lifted and I set my caster angle at the time I did my lift with an angle guage on top of the top ball joint. When I did my alignment checking caster angle, it was right on with what the angle guage said. Do it all correctly, and don't be afraid to ask questions here.
