cflfan_2004 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 I just recently bought a comanchee. They said it was a 1988. The sticker on the door is faded and can't be read. The vin stamped on the dash is only 16 digits. A friend said to just put a 1 in front of it as it starts with JT. When i do this and decript it only it comes up as a 1986. Some sites even say its a AMC but its clearly badged as a jeep. Does anyone know anything about some that came with a 16 digit vin?
eaglescout526 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 So what’s the last 8? The last 8 can tell us the model year. As for AMC, AMC owned Jeep from 1970-1988. 86 is a weird year but some are labeled as AMC and others as a Jeep but it’s still a Jeep. So no need to be concerned there. Feel free to gander the registry as well. GT is 86 HT is 87 JT is 88
cflfan_2004 Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 The vin stamped on the dash is JTHE6574GT161164
eaglescout526 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 That would make it an 86. Double check the one on either the front radiator support(86 only) or the firewall(87-92) to see if the VIN matches. It is possible someone swapped dashes around and not the VIN plate for the dash.
cflfan_2004 Posted September 16, 2021 Author Posted September 16, 2021 Thanks ill try find those other spots next time i get a chance
