Indyjeepnut
Does anyone make an aftermarker rear bumper for an MJ?
GirsMJ86
yes it is a full metal step bumper with diamond plate on the top. either chrome or black powder coat. i got one for my 86 when i bought it. its a fye bumper. http://www.truckaccessories4less.net/co ... ickup.html this isnt where i got mine from though. my uncle owned a car parts/paint store when i needed it but sold it awhile ago so I'm not sure where he ordered it from but it is nice. 87manche
http://www.rockratz.com/ really expensive. I looked at it and just made my own. Having a real frame in the back is pretty easy to attach too.
jpdriver1
hey 87manche any pics? I've got a wrangler class three hitch I'm thinking of transforming into a bumper for the
87manche
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78285 from ugly to not so ugly, with measurements it's still ugly, but that's the first thing I've ever made out of metal.
CWLONGSHOT
I made my own as well! Here is a peek: For some extra bracing to the receiver hitch. I added angular bracing that ties into the "frame" in four places. Good luck, CW
87manche
CW, I really like that, would certainly help my departure angle, and I could cut the bottom out of the bed and bend the tube under the corner for rear sliders. How did you attach it to the frame?
CWLONGSHOT
I don't have any pics of it, but i used heavy angle iron and fationed bracketry almost identicle to the factory. Just stronger. I also used two more bolts to attach it. I welded the bumper to those new brackets. As a rule I am not a fan of tube bumpers, but these really cam,e out well. I really like how tight I was able to keep it to the body. CW

RandysMJ
I made mine out of 1/4" 2x5. The ends are angled up, but it's hard to see in the pics. Helped my departure angles out. License plate holder i made too.

CWLONGSHOT
Thanks for the link!! Was there any issues with the install?? I will be using all rear flairs and be mounting higher. As I said I want to get above the rust. In the bed, its rusted thru but very narrow. Its right at the edge of the flair, nothing above. If you look close at the pics I posted, you will see the bit of black arround the rear flair, this is just to keep the rust under control, unitl I can address it this spring/summer. Any help with suggestions is greatly appreciated!! BTW, NICE MJ!! CW
GirsMJ86
u want rust suggestions? get some of the silver por15 and their fiberglass fabric stuff. used it on my 86 and it works great. or if the holes for the rust are not that big you can just put tape on the back of the holes and paint over the holes and tape with por15 silver and its as hard as steel. I'm going to this summer use some of their hardnose black paint and paint it with that so the thing is chip proof and everything proof really. and trust me this stuff works. we used some on our farm tractors and it makes for a really tough paintjob. alex
