blanzawa
Hello, I am attempting to put the dashboard back together after replacing the ignition switch in my '86. I know where and how the shorter of the two pictured support rods attaches but I am completely lost on the longer one and I cannot find any helpful diagrams or images. Thanks in advance. silvertwinkiehobo
Essentially, Maveric says both supports are on the left side of the column, on the stud that holds up the column; the column support goes over the stud, then the long one goes on, and reaches from the stud to a point next to the fuse block; the short one is last and goes over to a point on the left end of the dash. boxyjeep
The front one is a pain to install with the dash in place. They connect to the drivers side exterior wall with bolts that thread into threaded inserts. I believe they mostly come into play during an accident to keep the column in place. Thanks a ton. You confirmed my memory of finding them both bolted to the left bolt of the steering column support -- though I had the order wrong. I think a previous owner only had one end of the long rod bolted in so I'll need to scrutinize around the fuse block a bit more for the attachment point. silvertwinkiehobo
It's Maveric you should thank, as he's the one who told me how they go. I would've only been half right. But I'll pass your thanks along.
