87-89 Comanche Engine Sensors

Recommended Posts

First, thank you all for the help so far. I almost have it cranked, have good electrical, good fuel flow, just missing spark and final turn over. But I am getting close.

So I am using parts from an 88 4WD to get a 87 2WD running. With future state of converting 87 to 4WD.

My question today is sensors. (Note: I believe the 88 has an 89 engine in it based on all the stamps).

The 88/89 on Driver Side has knock sensor, oxygen sensor, and temp sensor all near each other that plug right into harness.

The 87, different story, not sure where Knock sensor plugs in, and temp sensor might be on Passenger Side, rear, near transmission bellhouse?

The two pictures below. First is what is left of 1987 sensor from passenger side rear of engine. can't tell if it whats left of temp sensor or something else? But certainly broken.

The second picture is the Knock Sensor and Temp sensor from 88/89 donor truck.

Where on my 87 are the knock sensor and temp sensor supposed to be located on the engine? THANK YOU!

The knock and temp sensor (that sends signal to ECU) are on the driver's side block, below manifolds.  The temp sensor that sends info to the gauge (assuming you have a gauge) is at the back of the head on the driver's side.  These are the locations for all Renix years - 87-90.

The second picture are the temp and knock sensors.  I am not sure what the top picture is.
