Had an interesting chat with the guys at J&W Jeep earlier this week. I originally called to check up on some cruise control parts but got side tracked talking about other stuff.

Anyway, the parts guy checked his computer and said he has TWO new old stock, OEM, Fuel Sending Units for the 91-92 Comanche sitting on the shelf.  I asked about the part number and he confirmed P/N 4637184, which should be correct for the HO models.

Then I said something like "Are you certain these are Comanche FSUs? Because these are frequently mixed up with Cherokee FSUs which are not interchangeable." His response was "We are a JEEP only salvage yard. We've been doing this for over 30 years. We know the difference between Cherokee parts and Comanche parts." Point being, he seemed pretty darn certain. He quoted $175 plus shipping.

These units are pretty hard to find in new condition. Just posting this as a lead for the next guy that stops by looking for one.

I have a 91-92 MJ NOS unit and 4637184 is the correct p/n from the parts manual. However the 4637184 is not stamped anywhere on the sending unit itself, only on the original Mopar box - if it has one. To verify for sure it's correct, the electrical harness should have the following tag:

I'll call them later today and see if they will verify. Nice find! These are the rarest of the rare MJ sending units.

I emailed them, but I'm guessing they took an early

holiday. $175 seems high, but if its a legit NOS unit

I guess i don't have room to complain.

Has anyone been able to reach these guys since

this posted? Ive sent three emails, and ive tried

calling (but unfortunatly at odd hours) and not

gotten any response at all...

I talked to them last Friday, asked if the units were in a factory Mopar box and what was the number on the wiring harness. Said they would look and call back. They never did.

"We do not have this part in stock, but

please keep in touch as we are a junkyard

and have new stock arriving everyday."

Well i wish them luck because i wasnt sure i

was willing to spend $175+s/h the first time

around. The next time they "discover" one

sitting on a shelf somewhere my max bid

will be $160 shipped. I don't play mark-up

games with anyone...

Huh? There's no "mark-up games" being played. These things listed at well over $200 retail when available. If you can find a NOS unit at $175 you'd better jump on it.

No, if you offer a unit at $175, but then not

sell it because you think you can get more later,

THATS a mark-up game. And the first time you

do it to me is the last time we do business.

Now i don't know yet if thats what they did, and

most likely they sold the two units before i emailed

them... my loss, fair play. But if two NOS units

appear on ebay next week with $200 BINs, then

J&W will have lost my business forever.

I keep a list of people and companies i will never

do business again with over $#!& moves like this.

If everyone did that, alot of those scrub vendors

would have folded years ago...
