coolwind57
I've been searching all over the place for a diagram. How can I remove two perfectly good front bump stops from a donor XJ? Mine on my MJ are missing, with the exception of the metal "cup" that the bump stop is suppose to reside in. Do you remove them by twisting their metal "cup" housings, maybe with a large pair of channel locks? These housings are threaded in through the engine bay, right? or do you just yank hard enough downward on the bumpstop itself? I can't seem to find a diagram that shows how they're attached to the truck. Sure appreciate some insight.
HOrnbrod
Stick a pipe wrench or large channel locks through the coils of the spring and unscrew them. Might help to douche them down first with some Rustbreaker or similar.
GAMJ
Some of the XJ bump-stops do not unscrew, they are pressed into the metal retaining cup. Others are crimped into the metal cup which then has a threaded bolt-like extension which screws the entire unit into the Jeep. Not exactly sure of the years when the press/pop/push in units began. My 97' XJ had this type https://www.quadratec.com/products/76058_074X_PG.htm These are SO MUCH FUN ( NOT ) to install new. While both my Comanches ( 88' & 89') had/have the screw in type https://www.quadratec.com/products/56021_100.htm Good Luck!
