Problem with daily driver's auto tranny.

Howdy fellas. Been a bit since I've been on here due to a lot of time spent at work and getting my car ready to do long drives for work. I got close to having my car ready until this week when something popped up... Transmission problems, I think. Last week I was driving about 65 when all of a sudden it jumps some like it popped in and out of OD. I didn't think much of it. Then a couple days later it kind of jumps a couple times after I shift into reverse. Didn't think anything of it... until today. I was going down the road, about 65 again. When it start jumping like crazy in and out of OD, I pull over, listen for a second. And then get back on the road and it's seeming to be fine. I checked the fluid and it looks pretty low, think this could be it? I checked the alternator and it's doing its job correctly. Really hoping this isn't the transmission going out. I just got the wheel shimmy fixed and the timing belt replaced and ordered the AC components so I don't have to sweat anymore...

read your owners manual for proper checking of the trans fluid.  the method can change slightly from car to car.  then make sure you use the proper fluid to make it exactly right.  some autos do not tolorate low (or too high) fluid levels.

good luck to you.  hopefully it's just a bit low.

Well I got the fluid to the right level and drove it... soon as I hit 60 the thing jerked 3 times and the engine reved up with no power to the wheels for a minute then it started jerking again and revved again. Seemed to try to do it with OD off as well. I'm canceling my order for the AC parts and looking at a 97 Sentra tomorrow which is in almost pristine condition since an old lady drove it for most of its life. 1600$ and everything works on it. I'll either diagnose my Contour some more or sell it as is... just hate that I spent so much money on it recently. But the tranny literally showed NO signs of wear. The car drove great up until last week.
