Papa ken
I have a1988 short bed comanche that is currently 2 wheel drive. My next door neighbor has a 1996 jeep cherokee that he is practically giving me and I have a few questions that I am hoping you guys can help me with. 1) I want to swap the power train over from the XJ, 4.0, aw4, and the 231. I plan on swapping all of the wiring over, I am thinking this should just be a matter of removing old wiring and replacing with the not as old wiring. Am I thinking right? 2) I want to take advantage of the ac and add it to my Comanche. Can I just swap the parts needed or is easier to swap the entire dash assembly? 3) I know '96 is a bastard year for the switch to obd2, but how do I check if it is obd2 or a late obd1? 4) What else do I need to worry about? I know I need to swap over the fuel pump and radiator over to a HO stuff, but what else? The XJ is running and driving, so I have a complete donor available. Thanks, Ken

Thanks, Ken In my honest opinion, I would use the 96 for parts or if you want to do a swap you would be better off using a 97+. Like you said, 96 is a bastard year and you'll probably run into weird problems. It would be a challenge but can be done. If you swap everything from the 96 then it won't be a problem but swapping only certain parts may give you problems. What exactly is hard to say.
