Have a 86 comanche 2.8 ltr 4wd automatic

when i bought the vehicle it had no 2.8 ltr LR2 motor in it

so i put in a 3.4 ltr L32 motor in it

I'm trying to figure out how the power steering works

if anyone has pics of how the power steering hooks up and what it all connects to would be great

i don't know where to connect the hose lines from the P.S. pump but i do have the pump connected to the motor

i was able to get the motor in there and running fine but

i have no power steering as of right now because its not hooked up

if anybody needs any more pics of what i have feel free to ask i will post

This is the supply/return hose hookup for the pump, the hoses go to the steering gear box. Do you have a power steering gear box mounted or a manual box?

i have no clue i was trying to learn about how the whole system works

with parts and everything then i could go back and see if i have

anything missing in my vehicle but i will post a pic

maybe that will help you lead me in the right direction

if some body could take a pic of theres and show how it suppose to look would be really helpfull

Looks like you need a power steering gear and hoses to connect it to the pump. I can't see the steering gear box in your pics.

In your last pic it's the unit the the steering intermediate shaft from the steering column is connected to. That's the input to the steering gear. The output is the Pitman arm (curved piece) connected to the steering linkage.

oh ok i found it

it was hiding under the smog canister

so i have hooked it up the way i believe is correct

but i was wondering if i could get anyones opinion on if it looks like i did it right?

do i just fill it up with the correct amount of power steering fluid and I'm good to go?

here are the pics

the whole thing

Plumbing looks correct. Fill the reservoir with PS fluid up to the mid mark on the dipstick, start the engine and check for leaks first. If okay turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times to bleed the air out of the system. You should see fluid bubbling in the reservoir. If all goes well, the bubbling will stop eventually. Top the fluid level off to the "Warm" mark on the cap dip stick and you're done.

thanks i did exactly what you said and i was able to get the wheels to

turn fully in both directions with very little resistance in the steering wheel

I'm happy that it works

oh yes there is some bubbling going on

but i am going to replace the hoses and clean the parts

so i will worry about the bubbling later when i rebuild it back together
