91 MJ bench seat retractable seat belts

Brand new 91 Comanche owner with an embarrassingly newb question.

PO replaced the interior with new bench seat but never added back either seat belt mechanism.

Can I add a standard universal 3 point mechanism or XJ mechanism or is there a specific set up required for my new MJ?

I ran into this on mine. The xj belts are slightly longer than the mj ones. So you'll have slap when you go to take it off and it tries to retract. Has anyone out been able to find a way to get another seatbelt for the mj?

My driver's ones belt is all worn down, I would like anew one, but last I checked, I couldn't buy new mj belts, anyone?

I had a bench seat and the belts were toast.  I put in buckets and got the seats and belts from the same 2 door XJ at the boneyard.  Since the whole thing is on the b-pillar on both trucks, the only difference is the plastic sheath thing that holds the female side belt to the console/seat.  My belts are long, but they spool up just fine.  You might see if there is a 2 door XJ...don't know if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the input. Picked up some nice XJ 2door bucket seats and two seat belt assemblies at pick a part today for $60. Hadn't planned on going that route but I'm going to like the new seats

if I'm not mistaken, 4 door xjs had their seat belt retractors mounted right at the base of the B pillar.   2door Xjs and Mjs both had them mounted mid height as to not interfere with back seat/ behind seat entry.

 

this would make 4 door seat belts ~1ft too long

I agree on the four door belts being 1ft too long..ran into that here too. Time to chease a two door belt then.

possible new are still available for a 2door XJ, which essentially is the same as MJ
