So I just recently did a bed swap on my 88 pioneer. Fortunately the gas tank wasn't as big of an issue as I thought, it bolted right up. I went to turn my truck over to get it back home. It didnt start. I noticed that my fuel gauge needle was burried all the way to the right. Past the full mark. Before I take it to my mechanic, I was wondering if any of you guys had any advise on what could be going wrong.

Did you  change the tank? Did you change the sending unit?  Are the wires crossed?

I recall that sending units changes polarity from early yrs to later yrs.

Is it possible to pinch the wiring harness between the bed and frame? Thus shorting it out or cutting the wires inside.

I did not change the tank or the sending unit. They are stock. I will have to check the harness ground when its light outside again. It is possible to pinch the harness but, it is zip-tied up out of the way.

The harness ground wire is attached to the bed with a sheet metal screw behind the left tail lamp. Did you disconnect it when you pulled the bed?
