DansGreyMj
So I was getting ready to refresh some springs for my mj, when I took them apart the rear retainer bolt and sleeve had left quite the impression on the main leafs. The deepest point is probably around 1/16". I looked at getting new mains made up at a local spring shop, but even the guy running the front desk thought the price was ridiculous. Here are a few pics. Do you think they will be okay to run?
HOrnbrod
What springs are those? My MT springs have leaf retainers like the below. They don't rub or move .........
DansGreyMj
Non MT springs. I think they were off a 2wd.
HOrnbrod
Looked up the non-MT springs in the parts manual and they have a retainer like yours with the bolt across the top. I think they will be fine, or you could use an aftermarket retainer that's all flat bar.
Eagle
I have a set of springs just like those in the photos. I also have a pair without the wear grooves. It seems Jeep made a change somewhere along the way (surprise!). The rebound clip design is basically the same for both sets, but where one leaves the spacer tube in intimate contact with the top surface of the main leaf, the other has taller vertical legs and leaves what appears to be enough space to add an additional leaf. The spacer tube seems to be there as a spacer, but the retainer straps are pretty heavy material. A suggestion to avoid further wear on those grooves might be to omit the spacer tube, and use nylock nuts on the cross bolts. That should leave enough clearance that there won't be additional rubbing.
