rockhardzj
The current schedual is for me to get the tcase bolted up to the tranny on Monday, when I return from my vacation, and then bolt them to the engine, and slide em in hopefully by Tuesday night. Wednesday will be a bunch of getting the weiring harness led around (anybody want to buy me a bunch of those zip tie clip thingies???) Thursday will be spent putting the dash and steering column in. Friday will be spent fixing my floor, and making some brackets for the new seats to mount to. Then the following week will be down to driveshafts (probably some redneck ones for now...), front suspension, and axles, meaning by next Friday, it should be running and ready to roll onto the trailer for it's maiden voyage at Bradford! rockhardzj
Went over to my buddy's shop today to drop off some 1/4" steel I marked for new LCA axle brackets. He's going to cut it for me over the weekend, while I visit my dad in FL. I came home with my speedo gear, and a new front driveshaft. Now, if Only I can figure that rear driveshaft out, I'll be all set for business.
rockhardzj
Currently, the transmission and transfer case are caloding to become one monster of a storm. Coming up, the forcast calls for engines raining into bays this afternoon, and tranny/tcase combos sliding in, finishng the day out with an electrcal storm over the bay. rockhardzj
The drivetrain is all bolted together. All, hanging from the engine hoist, in front of the MJ. I have most of the under hood electrical completed (worked till like 11:15pm tonight on it). Tomorrow, I have to weld my tranny shifter on, the stud snapped at the start of the threads. I am also going to double check all the nuts and bolts for being nice and tourqed down. About 2hrs worth of work tomorrow, and the drivetrain will be in, all bolted up, and then, it will be time to do any brackets in the interior to mount the dash to. I'll, do floorboards when I'm mounting the brackets too, then I only will have the welder out once. I am also making custom brackets to mount the new seats to, so they will be really nice when done. They will utilize the 97+ seat mounts for a factory fit. I'll get some pics tomorrow, if I remember...
rockhardzj
I'm holding off putting the drivetrain in until I get a few other things bolted in to keep life easier. It will be done by next weekend, but may not be seeing the trail, due to unforseen circumstances (the trailer is schedualed to be used to go get another jeep by a friend). rockhardzj
Only small issue the MJ has is that the steering wheel is off by about 3/4 an inch. not too bad considering the YJ is almost 2" off center... It's just a cosmetic thing.
rockhardzj
Well, a few updates, since I havn't really given any publicly in a while... I got the interior mostly done. I just have to drill a few holes in the floor and add in a few bolts in them to mount the backs of the seat mounts to so they are secure. I mounted the new tunnel mounted ebrake lever, no more retarded pedal. I need to drill a few holes to get the center console properly mounted with self tapping screws. I put the new visors in last night, but need to lead the wiring to them, and still need to install either an overhead console, or the dome lights. The engine bay is painted, it's flat black, and I like the looks of it, really good lookin! I'm considering flat black for the exterior, the lower bodyline down is currently flat black. I also painted the tunnel, covering any bare metal I had exposed (how did it not rust?????). The rear axle is bolted up, but waiting for the drivetrain, and a driveshaft to get the pinion angle set. The front axle is half hung, I still have to finish burning in the new LCA brackets on it. I am beginning to think I may just scrap the short arms altogether and go with some long arms up front, the XJ Long Arm Upgrade Kit from Rubicon Express. For the most part, it's all just tedious work, once the suspension stuff is done. I still need to do brake lines for the driver front, and another to the rear axle. I think that's about all for now...
beaterjeep
How involved was the swap from the foot operated E-brake over to the hand E-brake? Sounds like some good progress there.
rockhardzj
taking the old out was a matter of cutting the cable and unbolting it from the wall. The hand lever was as easy as roughing it out to where it needed to be, cutting a small spot out for the dip thing to fit into and drilling 3 holes for a couple self tapping screws. figuring out what ebrake cables i will need to run, and how to route them is another story, and i have yet to figure that out. beaterjeep
I'd say just measure from where the cable starts at the lever back to where it meets up by the axle. Then take that measurement and find another vehicle that uses that same length e brake cable, and use that.
Wildman
Rocky - while working on a XJ today, I notice the hand brake is a rod that goes to the equalizer, so why not just extend the rod and reuse the wheel cables???
rockhardzj
Rocky - while working on a XJ today, I notice the hand brake is a rod that goes to the equalizer, so why not just extend the rod and reuse the wheel cables???Newer ones use a cable to the equalizer, so I have to do that, I think. It's not important to figure out right now anyways. Hell, my ZJ hasn't had the ebrake shoes in place for over 2 years...
