1986 4.0 swap

Recommended Posts

So I went to the junkyard today and pulled parts from a 1993 Cherokee to use on my 86 Comanche, the engine I'm getting is from a 1994 grand Cherokee.

When I went to pull the dash and engine harness from the Cherokee and noticed that where the engine harness connects to the fuse panel in the bay was broken and had wires cut, I decided to just go ahead and take it all and take the dash harness

My question is since I'm getting the harness and computer from the ZJ than that be used instead of the broken xj harness?

Or would it be easier to cut off the connectors to the fuse box and solder the wires back together

the ZJ harness may share the same engine connection points, but the rest of it is very different.  The ZJ and XJ share very little.  A complete XJ harness would give you the best chance of a smooth transition (though you'll still need to splice into the MJ taillight harness).  Beyond that I'm of little help as I haven't done an HO swap yet myself.  there's probably some good info in the DIY forum.
