Turn signals and front lighting!

Recommended Posts

I have a 87' Mj 4.0L. Does anyone have an idea of why neither of my front signals work? I'm getting power all the way to the connector on both because when o probe it with a test light it will blink. The back ones work just not the front. Also is there anyone with an idea of how to make my headlights brighter because they are only getting roughly 10.5 volts each. Thanks!

As far as signals.  Mine didn't work either, replaced the sockets with new ones from the parts store and that solved my problem.  Whether you have the same problem as me or not, that's a different question.

Headlights.  A headlight relay wiring setup works great.  I get 13.8V at my bulbs.  Essentially you wire the headlights to power off the battery, use one factory headlight plug as the trigger for two relays, one for high beams, one for low, and voila.  The factory headlight harness is now simply used to trigger relays, which takes a lot of load off of the switch, and the power for said headlights comes directly from the battery.   If you google search you can find a lot of information on this type of mod.

+1 for the headlight mod - i bought a harness off of amazon for it and it really improved the lights (they're are most likely other harnesses too and i don't work for amazon!)

I have a turn signal issue myself with my 89 MJ. The right side lights up but does not blink. The left side is blinking normally like it should. I've replaced the big silver relay? on the fuse block but it did not help as well as fuses. Maybe thats a socket issue too. So i'm guessing you just pull the socket out cut it then replace it?

In simple terms, yes.  Pull the socket out, cut it off (keep track of the wires) and solder and heat shrink (or use weatherproof connectors) the new socket on.  They usually come with a short pigtail of wire for the connections.
