thejim42
so i had to top off the oil in my trans and i filled it through the shifter hole. I put the gear shift back in and now it is stuck in gear. I can move it back and forth but will not go into any gear and if i try to start it with my foot off the clutch it will lurch. is it possible that the shifter came out with the trans in gear? if so any advise on getting the trans back in neutral so i can get the gear shift back in the transmission correctly? 64 Cheyenne
Find out which gear its in, start it with clutch in, let out is it in 1st? Then whatever gear you think it's in, index the shifter to go into that spot, or stick screwdriver into top of tranny move sliders to neutral, insert shifter in neutral location. https://www.google.com/search?q=ba-10+transmission&biw=1366&bih=602&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=xMtWVbS3KYubyASTjYCYBw&ved=0CCgQ7Ak#imgrc=SNMdn8NhEFSHeM%253A%3BVo4vFHuuY_1gyM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.wilsons4x4.com%252Fimages%252FBA-10.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.wilsons4x4.com%252FImages.html%3B541%3B372 Hope this image helps, you can see where the shifter engages the rails and sliders. thejim42
Its in 5th gear. I can't get anything to move. There is nothing to pry a screwdriver against
Eagle
Its in 5th gear. I can't get anything to move. There is nothing to pry a screwdriver against More than likely, it was in gear when you removed the shifter handle, and when you reinstalled the handle and then shifted gears it's now in two gears at the same time. You should be able to see the shift rails and move them manually, but to do so you'll probably have to jack the rear wheels off the ground to take all load off the gears and synchronizers, and you may need a helper to gently rotate one of the rear tires back and forth to facilitate shifting. thejim42
I got it. I had the shifter in part way a juggled it around a whole bunch as my buddy rocked the truck back and forth and it fell into place
