What will fit my 4.0 4x4 longbed from a 2.5L 4x4 longbed

Recommended Posts

Hey guys was going up a rocky road and my driveshaft got caught and snapped off turns out I broke that, bent leaf springs and some of my gears in the back end are chipped. Anyways I went to the junk yard and found a near perfect 2.5L comanche 4x4 longbed and I was wondering what would fit from it I have a 89 Longbed 4x4 4.0L. Also if it doesnt fit where can I find a driveshaft and what should I do about gears mechanic said its driveable it has the good dana rear end. thanks

What will fit depends on several factors. Your transmission type vs the 2.5 tranny. The two use different standard transmissions (AX4/5 for the 2.5, AX-15 for the 4.0). I think, but am not sure, that both use the AW4 automatic. So, if both trucks have auto trannies, then I figure that the driveshaft should be the same. If they're standard trannies, then they will be different, though it's possible that the driveshafts are the same anyway. Rear diff gear ratios of the two trucks need to be the same, of course. I don't know of any differences in the rear springs unless yours is a metric ton. The 2.5 might have smaller drums on the rear.

Pull the axles, for better gears, leafs will swap. drive shaft may be a different length. But can have a good shop modify that for you.

Suspension should be plug n pray. Most other items will swap as well. IF the bed is in good shape and you have the room/cash get that and keep as a spare?

4 cyl auto would not have an AW4. Only late, late model XJ's with 4 cyl /auto had AW4. Will have a Chryco trans if it's auto.
