Howdy all, I'm a member of the comanche forum on yahoo and thought that i would start posting my questions over here. The other day i ran my comanche through some water that was deep enough to get sucked into the engine. Now when i start it it idles at 2500 to 3000 thousand rpms. I have replaced my tps. needed a new one anyways. this did nothing to my idle i have it set right at 82%. I'm wondering if there is something else that could of gotten wet that would mess up the idle. I never had this bad of an idle problem before this. its been almost three weeks since it happened and i have drivin the truck about 20 miles since to see if it would clear up. other than the high idle it runs fine. thanks in advance

Well, the manual says to use Miller tool #7558 (formerly Ele. Ct.01) excerciser, whatever that is. I assume you have an automatic transmission since you set the TPS to 82%, otherwise it's 17% for manual transmission. The '89 FSM is in error and states 83% for both AT & MT but the '90 FSM and RENIX manual say 17% for MT.

Hopefully someone else has more information.

Yeah its an auto sorry i didnt put it the first time. yeah the idle is extremely high. even when its warm. i pretty much have to ride the brakes so i don't speed in town. its not a good thing cuase its my daily driver. good thing all i do is go to work and back.

thanks

Check out this thread over on NAXJA, it might be of some help to you, it's helped me- http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... idle+renix

fiatslug87- Do you know for sure that the TPS setting is different for manual and auto? My Chilton's book doesn't differentiate, not that I believe that over the Renix book.... Are you running your 5spd at the .17 setting?

Oh, and check your intake manifold bolts, as well as for leaks. Spray some carb cleaner around the manifold, and if the idle fluctuates you either need to tighten those bolts good and/or replace the gasket. One of my bolts was finger-loose. I tightened it up and my idle dropped about 1000rpms!

I'm sure, check out the Renix manual at http://www.pirate4x4.com or Google Renix manual, the '90 FSM also has the same procedure.

Yes, I'm running at 17%. You divide the Output voltage (A to C) by the Input voltage (A to B), that ratio should be 0.17 (17%).

Do you have a direct link to the Pirate Renix manual, I've never been on that site, I don't know where to begin looking......

the AT and MT models have different TPS modules, and I'm pretty sure they're differently. It confused the hell out of me when I tried tyo adjust mine, as the voltages are backwards, adn the AT TPS has a different connector.
