ownedueasy
Ok, while converting my 92 2.5, ax5 to 4x4 I bought a trans, tcase, from a 92 yj, after I got it in, my slip yoke from my old ax5 2wd is way too small in diameter. Any help here please on which yoke I need to find I think the tail shaft on the 4x4 is 27 or 28 I'm not 100% sure didn't have a marker to mark where i started counting
mjeff87
2WD and 4WD yokes are the same diameter, but the spline count is different. 4WD is 27 spline, 2WD is coarse, like 13 spline. You can use an XJ/MJ/YJ/TJ 4WD yoke, they are all the same except the YJ yoke is wider between the ears (allows more driveshaft articulation). HOrnbrod
Only the slip yoke from a 2WD AX5 tranny won't work for your application because it has 21 splines. But the 2WD (or 4WD) slip yokes from an AW4 or AX15 transmission will because it's spline count is 27 splines.
ownedueasy
I got one today from the Junk yard from a suburban turbo 350. Got lucky and the owner gave me the carbon/aluminum drive shaft with it.. what are the chances I won't have to cut the shaft? Just put the new slip yolk on my old shaft and it'll work? Because it looks extremely close.
