The AMC cover has lugs built into the cover for the alt mount whereas the MPI cover does not. Which makes sense because all the accessories on the 98 are mounted differently and use different pulleys and dampener. The above two links link to the same part number and indicate that the cover can be used on multiple engines from 65 to 90, all 4s and 6s. Any of you bought this cover for your pre 90 4 or 6cyl? Jeep Driver
Also, what is that which looks to be a sight hole just below the degree marks?
HOrnbrod
Also, what is that which looks to be a sight hole just below the degree marks? I asked that same question awhile back as that nub was interfering with the serp belt after I installed the 99 intake, Here's the answer and the thread: it hooks up to an old Sun oscilloscope and fit's in the hole and used for timing. I've seen long metal ones also but couldn't find a picture. It works like a hall effect and triggers like a timing light on the scope. sorry about the small picture, it was the best I could do http://comancheclub.com/topic/38622-tower-or-nub-on-the-timing-cover/?hl=timing+cover
